Assessment accommodation
As of January 13, 2025, Canadian citizenship is a requisite for obtaining Secret security clearance at Global Affairs Canada. Permanent residents are welcome to participate in this staffing process. **Duties**:
A Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is an executive responsible for overseeing the medical and health-related aspects of an organization. Their work involves:
- developing and implementing health policies, ensuring compliance with medical regulations, and managing occupational health programs, including travel and overseas health.
- The CMO plays a pivotal role in strategic planning, addressing complex health-related challenges, and providing leadership to medical staff.
- It is important to note that the CMO collaborates with other delegated authorities to develop and refine health policies, ensuring a cohesive approach to healthcare management.
- The CMO must be able to work with different stakeholders and understand that, in many instances, their role is to provide advice for decisions made by non-medical professionals.
- The CMO ensures the delivery of high-quality healthcare services, promotes patient safety, and drives initiatives to improve overall health outcomes within the organization.
Duties include:
- Supervise and lead health professionals and allied staff in overseas health services, ensuring efficient case management.
- Develop and manage health programs, including planning, implementation, and evaluation of new initiatives.
- Establish quality monitoring systems to maintain effective and cost-efficient health service delivery.
- Provide expert medical consultation for programs like Occupational Health and Safety, Disability Management, and Emergency Response.
- Advise senior management on health policy and build partnerships with provincial, national, and international organizations.

**Intent of the process**:

A pool may be established and used to staff similar positions with various tenures and various linguistic requirements at Global Affairs Canada.

EDUCATION
E1: Graduation with a degree from a recognized school of medicine.
Degree equivalency
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
OC1- Valid license to practice medicine in a province or territory in Canada and a member in good standing in that province.
EXPERIENCE
EX1 Extensive* experience as a medical practitioner in primary care, infectious disease, occupational health and safety, public health or a field related to the position.
EX2 Recent** and considerable** experience in providing strategic advice and recommendations to Senior Management.**
EX3 Experience in managing human resources and financial resources.**
EX4 Experience in leading in International Health programs.**
EX5 Experience in at least two of those fields:
- Occupational medicine
- Travel Health
- Public Health.
- Emergency medicine
- Primary care
- Extensive experience is defined as the depth and breadth of professional experience that would normally have been gained performing the duties for a period of at least ten (10) years. Experience may be in the office, clinic, and/or hospital setting and may include time spent in residency training.
**Recent experience is defined by experience gained within the last 5 years.
