**Description of Purpose**:
The Crisis Worker reports directly to the MST Program Manager. The Crisis Worker provides specialized trauma-informed crisis intervention support to participants in the Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) programs. The Crisis Worker will participate as part of an integrated care team in safety planning and care planning for participants either are in crisis or who have had a chronic history of experiencing crisis.

The Crisis Worker will be present for key response and decision making to de-escalate potential crisis and during crisis situations. The focus of this shift is taking care of, and building rapport with the residents, and building in safety measures that allow people to avoid or more successfully move through crisis. The crisis worker will help staff and clients recover from crisis and nurture staff and client’s development as they foster the skills necessary to navigate through future crisis. Crisis workers will also take preventive interventions in non-crisis situations to reduce the likelihood of crises emerging in the future. The Crisis Worker will be familiar with and have well developed networks in the established crisis response programs in the City.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Provide specialized and individual services to individuals with complex needs.
- Respond effectively and efficiently to any emergencies that occur during the shift
- Build respectful relationships with participants
- Conflict resolution
- Support residents in the hospital
- Manages emergency situations with EPS/EMS and Crisis teams when on site
- Provide back-up assistance to the program teams as necessary
- Review Incident Reports and complete follow up with participant and team as required
- Promote communication between participants and staff
- Work cooperatively as a member of the program team to ensure coordination of client care
- Attend and participate in care plan and client safety meetings
- Provides updates to the oncoming shift and participates is shift exchange meetings
- Maintain up-to-date client records. Complete all necessary file notes, reports and other written documentation on a timely basis and in accordance to the organization's standards.
- Communicate follow-up tasks to the day shift
- Provide crisis intervention expertise to other agency staff
- Participate in team meeting and agency functions as required
- Participate in professional development activities to maintain competency
- Work in compliance with all policy and procedures and directives
- Updates and maintains information on referrals sources using the FYI and/or ETO database

**Position Requirements**
- An open, accepting and non-judgmental attitude with an ability to build rapport with clients and staff
- Experience working with people with complex life circumstances associated with substance-related disorders, mental health issues, mobility issues and homelessness
- Basic understanding of harm reduction and trauma-informed care principles based on dignity, hope and healing and individuals move forward toward improved health and well being
- Demonstrates understanding of the addictions field
- Knowledge of referral resources
- Understanding of inner-city issues
- The ability to drive or otherwise arrange their own travel within the city between programs.
- An understanding of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) as well as experience working with Indigenous Community Members.
