Job Summary

Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI) and Research Manager the Research Associate will coordinate and conduct scientific research to support the Eastern Ontario Network (EON) which is part of Canadian Primary Care Sentinel Surveillance Network (CPCSSN) national program. The Research Associate is an integral member of the local CPCSSN team within the Centre for Studies in Primary Care (CSPC) responsible for conducting literature reviews, developing evidence based reports and research proposals, recruiting physicians and patients, conducting patient enrolment and consent, extracting data from Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and reviewing charts. The Research Associate will collect, enter and process data, and conduct descriptive analysis using SPSS. Travel to various primary care sites is required. The Research Associate must be able to multi-task, and have excellent interpersonal skills required for interviewing informants, study participants or experts.

**Job Description**:

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Participate in the design and development of research protocols, interview questionnaires, surveys, and other research tools as required for assigned research studies.
- Conduct evidence based literature reviews and prepare research proposals, reports and clinical education materials, in consultation with the Principal Investigator(s) and the CSPC Research Manager.
- Assist in the coordination and conduct of research studies by preparing ethics submission documents, and recruiting physicians and patients to assigned research studies.
- Extract data from EMRs, review charts, conduct patient consent and verify eligibility according to protocols.
- Review, analyze and interpret patient charts, supporting clinical documentation and medical data using SPSS for assigned projects.
- Establish and manage databases for assigned research studies, entering data and monitoring data for accuracy and consistency.
- Provide support to the Principal Investigator, Co-Investigators, and other team members, and ensure research study records are maintained, filed, and stored appropriately.
- Create a positive work environment that supports and promotes a culture where a diverse range of ideas and perspectives are encouraged.
- Undertake other duties and special projects as assigned in support of the project and PI.

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Master’s degree in Health Sciences or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in one or more of the following: clinical research methodology, family medicine, health sciences, qualitative research, or nursing.
- Experience in EMR data extraction and chart review.
- Leadership and supervisory experience is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of university structure, policies, procedures and computing systems.
- Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience in a medical research setting.

- Time management and organization skills to allocate time and resources, and coordinate workflow and study activities.
- Analytical, interpretive, and problem-solving skills with the ability to solve unexpected problems as they arise.
- Computer skills to aid in the research, analysis and presentation of data including proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (notably Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), the Internet, and online videoconferencing platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
- Excellent presentation skills suitable to deliver information to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse professionals in a team-oriented environment.
- Writing, advanced editing and proofreading skills with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
