**Duties and Responsibilities**:
The Recruitment, Outreach, and Planning Officer plays a key role within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) by developing, maintaining and implementing FASS-specific undergraduate and graduate outreach and recruitment programs and strategies. The incumbent reports on recruitment and retention programs, facilitates experiential learning opportunities for FASS units, provides informed counsel to students seeking academic program advice and registration assistance to support future academic and career success and provides data extraction and analysis to inform decisions. Reporting to the Associate Dean, Student Affairs and Enrolment and working closely with the Dean on specific projects, the incumbent contributes directly to the financial and academic success of FASS by developing and implementing targeted, engaging and evolving recruitment programs to attract and retain students and through the provision of expert data analysis of enrolment and other data that informs strategic decision-making within FASS.

As part of a broader recruitment and retention program, the incumbent is a central point of contact between the Faculty and community partners on issues related to experiential learning. The incumbent develops and implements a strategic approach to experiential learning tailored to meet the specific needs of FASS students as well as works collaboratively with other offices on campus involved in experiential learning (such as the Student Experience Office) to ensure appropriate synergies and the sharing of best practices. The incumbent represents the Faculty at recruitment activities both on and off-campus and coordinates representation at those events (unit, faculty and student staff participants). The incumbent facilitates the recruitment, hiring, training and supervision of FASS Ambassadors and other volunteer student staff to ensure they are prepared to represent the Faculty appropriately at recruitment and other events/activities.

With thorough knowledge of enrolment trends and academic (including experiential learning and practicum) programs within FASS, the incumbent provides in-depth academic advising to FASS students at all levels, develops strategies and tools to inform students’ academic decisions through alumni surveys, enrolment analysis, Major Maps, etc. and is a key team member working collaboratively with the Communications and Financial teams, Associate Deans, and academic units to provide engaging outreach and data-informed input into the direction of academic planning and activities.

**Qualifications**:
**The incumbent must possess the following qualifications**:

- This role requires excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal); the ability to take initiative, determine and balance priorities, and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve Faculty goals.
- Sound judgement, empathy, listening skills and the ability to understand and advise on complex situations when advising students on their academic path within the Faculty.
- Attention to detail and the ability to perform detailed queries and extract data from Carleton’s DataCubes is mandatory.
- Advanced level skills in document development and preparation is required to effectively present data and transform statistics into meaningful and manageable information for decision making by a varied audience.
- Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills to effectively formulate a solution tactfully with clients seeking statistical information, including determining the precise nature of their request, understand content and context as well as the degree of urgency, and provide data in appropriate formats for end-users.
- The ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
- The ability to respond to constant and unpredictable pressures is crucial. The incumbent must be patient and non-judgmental; initiative as well as tact, diplomacy and a high level of interpersonal skills are mandatory to work with and relate to students, student staff, university staff and faculty.
- The incumbent will be required to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends to attend recruitment and outreach events.
- Advanced skills in electronic communication and virtual meeting tools (e.g., Zoom, Teams, Airmeet) that may be used from time to time in daily work and recruitment activities.

**Education and Experience**:

- Completion of a Master’s degree, with a concentration in educational counselling combined with exposure to statistics.
- Five years of progressively responsible experience in areas related to academic advising, recruitment and outreach, experiential learning, communications, and data analysis, ideally in an education setting.
