Instructor (Ft - School Hours)

**About us**:LDS - Learn. Develop. Succeed. (LDS) is a growing, innovative, research-based, nonprofit charity serving children, youth and adults with diagnosed or suspected learning differences like dyslexia, written-output disorders, ADHD and more.

In collaboration with academic institutions, LDS offers individualized, evidence-based programs that target student-specific learning needs. Our growing programs and services operate online, from our Learning Centres in East Vancouver and North Vancouver, in-school locations, and our mobile classroom.

We provide affordable programs to ensure that all children, youth and adults have an opportunity to realize their full potential. Through early intervention, we support students at a critical time, leading to profound, positive changes in student life outcomes. We are scaling up our organization and services to effect system change with material and wide-ranging societal benefits.

This specific position works Monday to Friday at one of our in-school placements at Vancouver Talmud Torah, a K-7 school in Vancouver.

**January 2025 seeking**: We are actively looking for one elementary instructor (instructional skills for teaching math and literacy topics for learners in Kindergarten to grade 7) for our in-school location at Vancouver Talmud Torah. During the summer months, this position would be working in-person at LDS' East Vancouver or North Vancouver Learning Centres.

**Locations**:

- Vancouver Talmud Torah, 998 West 26th Avenue, Vancouver, BC Monday to Thursday during the academic year
- LDS East Vancouver Learning Centre, 3292 East Broadway, Vancouver BC on Fridays, ad hoc days and during summer programming

**Our Instructors**:Our instructors are experienced educators with a passion for making learning accessible, engaging, and possible for learners who find learning difficult and have skills and experience in delivering instruction in the following three academic areas: reading, writing and/or math.

**Start Date: As early as January 2, 2025.**A school-year commitment is required. Our programs run September-June with the school calendar with breaks over the December holiday period and in April this year.

Vancouver Talmud Torah also has scheduled holiday closures in observance of holidays in the Jewish faith.

**Full Time**:37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

**Remuneration**:Full-time, $53,000 - $56,000 per annum

**Instructor Responsibilities**:

- Deliver one-to-one instruction to help bridge foundational skills gaps for students
- Administer assessments to help identify gaps in student’s learning
- Work with evidenced-based curricula to develop lesson plans based on assessments
- Set goals and objectives for each student with the support of a Case Manager
- Write progress reports for students
- Provide brief session summaries to parents/families
- Be punctual to all student sessions
- Attend instructor in-services and workshops throughout the year
- Contribute to our team learning and be an advocate for learning differences and our work in the community

**Qualifications and Requirements**:

- Bachelor's degree in education or a related field with educational experience
- Experience working with children with diagnosed or suspected learning differences
- Ability to use assessment strategies and instruments to identify gaps in learning
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated and self-directed
- Experience teaching in all of the following areas: reading, writing and mathematics
- An understanding of the BC curriculum
- An understanding of structured literacy (for literacy instructors; please describe this in your cover letter)
- Orton-Gillingham training or other structured literacy experience (asset)
- Experience managing complex behavioural profiles (asset)
- Criminal record check with the vulnerable sector
- Eligibility to work in Canada

**Accessibility**: Please note that LDS’s East Vancouver Learning Centre is on the ground floor of the building. Vancouver Talmud Torah is a multi-storey building with elevator access on each floor.
