Some noteworthy projects include the reconstruction of a dam on the Trent-Severn Waterway, the rehabilitation of Windermere Basin in Hamilton, and enabling works for the Eglinton LRT.

**Position**:Surveyor/ Grade Person

**Reports to**:Senior Surveyor

The Surveyor/Grade Person will be responsible for coordinating and laying out various aspects of construction projects with a high level of accuracy, ensuring the design criteria is adhered to and well documented. They also take good care of all instruments and accessories, and transport them to and from the field.

**Responsibilities**
- Conducting site layout or construction staking surveys; including, rough grade as well as site layout staking.
- Reading and interpreting construction plans and transposing plan information onto the worksite for the purpose of carrying out construction excavation.
- Performing slope staking and grade staking efficiently and effectively.
- Accurately recording measurements (including computing material volumes), deviations and other information obtained through survey activities, and organizing and recording all information.
- Utilizing specialized survey equipment to determine precise measures of grades and positions, including the set-up, calibration and maintenance of equipment as per equipment standards.
- Providing on-site troubleshooting and quality control to ensure all data and work performed is accurate and up to date.
- Preparing and communicating field notes, sketches, checklists, and digital data and issuing weekly/monthly reports.
- Downloading and processing survey data using the appropriate software, if required.
- Measure and record field data with a high level of detail and accuracy
- Communicate effectively with Supervisors and Project Managers daily to update on job scheduling and progress.
- Responsible for safe operation of tools, vehicles and equipment
- Perform all tasks within Federal and Provincial Labour Laws, as well as company rules.
- Other assigned duties and tasks, as required

**Qualifications**
- Completed a Civil Engineering or Survey related program from an accredited academic institution.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a construction surveyor.
- Familiarity with and ability to understand construction, total station and GPS survey instruments specifically TOPCON equipment.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to read plans and calculate grades, off-sets, slope stakes, etc.
- The aptitude to complete accurate calculations in the field while under pressure.
- Experience or Familiarity with AutoCAD or other Autodesk based software.
- Good organizational skills & excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to effectively manage schedules and satisfy the needs of construction personnel, superintendents as well as client and project management.
- Site security clearance will be required for some sites; including but not limited to, a valid and clear criminal record check and driver’s abstract.
- Must be authorized to work in Canada for any employer
- Practical experience on a construction site or around heavy equipment is an asset
- Possession of a valid ‘G’ class driving license and the ability to travel to various locations throughout Ontario

**Working Conditions/Physical Effort**:
Surveyor/Grade Person works in the field (working around construction machinery and live traffic, uneven field conditions and elevated platforms / formworks) or and he/she also has some duties in the office.
