Heavy Truck Operator

**Position Summary**:
As a member of the Public Works Team, the Heavy Truck Operator is responsible for operating the heavy truck and when required, other heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner ensuring that roadways are accessible, safe, and in good condition.
The Heavy Truck Operator will provide back-up support within the Public Works Operations as required.
**Responsibilities**:
- Haul gravel for County roads or to trouble spots for road repair.
- Stockpile gravel during winter months.
- Report any dangerous or unsafe road conditions.
- Perform all daily safety and maintenance checks.
- Perform general care and maintenance of all equipment being used; notify the Foreman of any repairs required.
- Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and secure work area.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable Wheatland County policies and bylaws.
- Ensure compliance with OH&S including attendance at safety meetings, being properly trained in OH&S related topics, and ensuring work is completed in a safe manner.
- Appropriately, and in a timely manner complete administrative tasks when required.
- Relate to and communicate with co-workers, management, customers and vendors sincerely, clearly, tactfully, promptly and courteously; respond to inquiries and complaints promptly and professionally.
- Perform tasks, consistent with the position, including special projects / assignments, as may be required on an ad hoc basis.
**Qualifications**:
- Experience working with heavy equipment, including equipment maintenance and storage procedures.
- Experience and knowledge of road construction and road maintenance.
- 3 years’ experience driving similar vehicles and hauling similar commodities is preferred.
- Valid Class 1 Alberta drivers’ license.
- Dozer, wheel loader, and water truck experience an asset.
**Working Conditions**:
- Monday to Friday; 50 hours/week
- Overtime may be required
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
