As a Merchandiser Counselor, you will be merchandising in the Seasonal/Garden Centre department at local retailers. Primary locations will include Home Depots - Abbotsford and Chilliwack, and Lowes - Abbotsford. This is a contract position with a start date in mid-February and an end date in late September. Exact dates will be provided at the interview stage. Average weekly hours for the spring/summer season are 32 to 40 hrs/week and an average of 16 to 24 hrs/week for the remaining summer to September. Shift times are flexible and mostly bound by retail store hours. Typical shifts are weekdays but we may require a few Saturday shifts during key retail sales weekends.

**We are now offering a $500 hire/stay bonus, paid after 4 weeks of employment.**

**Key Work Performed**:

- Merchandise Scotts products include restocking shelves, racks, and displays; cleaning and facing products; repairing or removing damaged items, etc.
- Drive in-store sales in conjunction with Scotts Sales Manager.
- Assemble fixtures and displays in-store.
- Install and maintain point of purchase materials.
- Provide recommendations and product knowledge to both consumers and retail customer associates.
- Provide consumer counseling sessions including lawn and garden educational clinics, promotional events, and in-aisle consumer education as needed.

**Job Specifications: (Minimum Requirements)**

**Skill Factors (education, experience, communication, technical, etc.)**
- Strong initiative, self-directed, and able to work independently with little supervision.
- Reliable.
- Good organization and planning skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to fluently read, write and speak English. (fluency in French required for some territories)
- Basic computer skills.

**Effort Factors: (physical and mental demands)**
- Some Heavy lifting is required; bending, kneeling, standing for extended periods of time; comfortable with ladders.

**Working Conditions**:

- Early morning, evening, and weekend work may be necessary.
- Ability to travel locally by car as needed.
- Works in “big box” retail stores with natural and artificial light exposure; forklifts and/or similar machinery is present.
- Will be exposed to changes in temperature and humidity including indoor/outdoor working conditions.

**A few other things we’ll expect from you**:

- Current valid Driver’s License, Driver’s Abstract, Criminal Record which meets Company criteria.
- Must have full access to a car during work hrs. (mileage reimbursed).
- Must have access to a computer with high-speed internet and printing capabilities.
- Must have daily use of cell phone.
- Must have Steel Toe boots/shoes. (green patch)
