Research Assistant, Across Landscapes and Continents: Large-scale Movements of Hominins and Fauna During The Middle Pleistocene

Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.

**Position Overview**:
**Duties**:

- Visualization of CT and micro-CT image stacks, 3D surfaces segmentation, and 3D surface rendering.
- Preparing 3D surface meshes for 3D printing.
- Operating 3D printers.
- Placement and statistical analysis of 3D landmarks.
- Perform geometric morphometrics protocols.
- Maintain and manage databases and research materials.
- Monitor and document research status and findings.
- Assist with duties related to the production of articles, publications, reports, and presentations.
- Assist in data collection, data entry, analysis, and interpretation. Database updating and maintenance.
- Perform data/word processing, and record keeping.
- Social media promotion of projects results and events organized by the Anthropology Department.
- Perform routine clerical and administrative duties to support research activities.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.

**Qualifications**:

- Must be a full-time student at The University of Winnipeg.
- Familiarity with Anthropology Department projects.
- Prior experience in research is preferred.
- Have completed the following courses: ANTH-1003 Intro Biol Anth Arch, ANTH-2300 Meth Thry Biol Anth, and ANTH-3308 Human Evolution.
- Familiarity with human osteology, odontology and 3D reconstruction.
- Proficiency in Amira 3D, Blender, Meshlab, Halotbox, and Stratovan Checkpoint software.
- Familiarity with anthropometric landmarks.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions, procedures and regulations.
- Ability to work in an unsupervised environment, and to work effectively on team-based projects.

**Condition(s) of Employment**:

- **Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.**

The period of work will be from **June 24, 2025 - August 8, 2025**and the estimated total hours of work will be **150 - 160 hours**.
