**Job Summary**

**Responsibilities**
- Operate asphalt rollers (static, vibratory, or pneumatic) to compact asphalt, gravel, and other materials to specified densities and smoothness.
- Perform pre-operation inspections and routine maintenance on rollers to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Follow project plans, grades, and specifications to achieve proper compaction and surface finish.
- Coordinate with paving crew, foremen, and other equipment operators to ensure efficient workflow.
- Monitor asphalt temperatures and adjust rolling patterns to achieve optimal results.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety regulations and protocols.
- Identify and report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the site supervisor.
- Assist with other construction tasks as needed, including raking, shoveling, or traffic control.

**Requirements**:

- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience operating asphalt rollers or similar heavy equipment in road construction or paving projects.
- Licenses/Certifications: Valid Ontario G driver’s license with a clean driving record. AR/ARZ license is an asset. Certification in heavy equipment operation (preferred but not mandatory).
- Knowledge: Familiarity with asphalt paving processes, compaction techniques, and equipment maintenance. Understanding of Ottawa’s construction standards and safety regulations.
- Strong hand-eye coordination and ability to operate machinery with precision.
- Ability to read and interpret project plans, grades, and blueprints.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Physical stamina to work long hours in outdoor conditions.
- Safety: Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), and other relevant safety standards.
- Availability: Willingness to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and overtime during peak construction season (April-November).

Working Conditions:

- Work is performed outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
- Exposure to dust, noise, and heavy machinery requires adherence to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Projects may require travel within Ottawa and surrounding areas (e.g., Smiths Falls, Winchester, Embrun).
