Vancouver, Canada CHANGEpain Clinic Full time

CHANGEpain clinic is accepting 1-2 fellows annually into our Pain Training program. Over the course of two years, we provide a comprehensive education in the practice of pain management with an emphasis on Interventional treatment options, within a true interdisciplinary practice setting. We emphasize compassionate and appropriate knowledge-based care, professionalism and, for foreign-trained physicians, a thorough introduction to the Canadian healthcare system.

Clinic team and training scope
CHANGEpain physicians, GPs and specialist interventionalists, sees over 3500 new patients annually which provide the learning opportunity for fellows in our program. We provide access to a wide scope of interventions and post-graduate trainees will be trained in trigger point injections using the myoactivation method to ultrasound-guided procedures including peripheral nerve blocks and joint injections. Specialist Interventional fellows will have exposure to ultrasound and fluoroscopy guided procedures including medial branch blocks, epidurals, joint injections and nerve blocks, including sympathetic blocks, neurolysis, and procedures using radiofrequency technology. We also have a busy regenerative medicine practice (prolotherapy and platelet-rich plasma) and oversee in-office and ambulatory ketamine and lidocaine infusions. We do not perform any implants in our practice.

All trainees will also practice medication management and work closely with the multidisciplinary side of our clinic.

We have four interventional and 3 GP faculty, who provide daily support and advice on procedures and patient management. The fellowship provides graded training matched to skills of our digital office patient workflows, local resources and foundations of pain interventions. We will also sponsor you to take the Myoactivation course for trigger point based pain management skills.

The fellowship evolves with graded training matched to skill. This combined observership and hands-on work will help ease the transition into our practice as you begin learning the both the Canadian medical system and the workflow within our clinic. During the day, you will be in the clinic room with a pain-focused GP or interventional physician as they perform procedures, allowing you to gain familiarity with the necessary anatomy and procedures. You will have a graduated level of responsibility, with increasing exposure to advanced procedures facilitated by ultrasound rounds and didactic sessions. You will start by completing consultations and medication management of pain, performing increasingly higher risk procedures (trigger points to the low back and limbs, working towards thoracic, cervical and head/face). You will gain hands-on ultrasound experience during our ultrasound rounds, with sign offs by faculty allowing independent performance of ultrasound guided peripheral nerve blocks and joint injections.

You will rotate with interventional faculty, pain-focused GPs and our in-office multidisciplinary team consisting of physiotherapists chiropractors and kinesiologists. To supplement learning sessions, accredited grand rounds are conducted every second Thursday and we have biweekly interdisciplinary complex case rounds. We have a research department, and each clinical fellow is expected to complete an academic project. You will also have dedicated academic time.
