Job Summary
The Specialist, Communications and Digital Engagement is responsible and accountable for identifying and delivering the strategic marketing and communications content used across multiple channels to advance the Faculty of Arts and Science and Queen's University's image, profile and reputation with local, national and global audiences. The position will develop and implement traditional and digital communication activities to support strategic goals.
Responsible for developing donor cases for support and proposals, the incumbent must be a highly skilled researcher and writer with a superior understanding of traditional and new communication technologies and a strategic thinker with deep experience. The incumbent will be a storyteller and editor, providing leadership and guidance to senior leaders, administrators and staff on content creation and management. They contribute to the Office of Advancement and Faculty of Arts and Science's program of content marketing, liaising with communication colleagues across campus and, occasionally, external vendors. This position is responsible for planning, evaluating and producing the highest quality content, which will further the reputation and strategic goals of Queen's University. Creating, as well as directing and managing the creation of editorial content for central channels from a large group of internal and external sources, the Specialist, Communications and Digital Engagement serves as a lead editor for the Faculty of Arts and Science Advancement team and liaises with communications professionals across campus on matters of research, style, story development and content creation.

A Brief Overview
This position develops and implements advancement communication initiatives. This position evaluates the outcomes of advancement communication initiatives and implements changes for improvement. This position gathers information and content to support the publication of feature stories on faculty, staff, senior administrators, community partners, alumni, sponsors, and benefactors.The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to work variable hours, including regular attendance at early morning meetings.
What you will do
Develops all of the creative content for advancement initiatives.
Plans, develops, executes, and evaluates the success of broad-based initiatives.
Assesses the outcomes of initiatives, and designs and implements changes.
Interviews students, faculty, staff, senior administrators, alumni and benefactors to gather information for written and online products.
Creates and manages strategies for principal donor engagement, including identifying donor audiences.
Selects, writes and edits feature stories and social media posts for campus community communications and alumni and donor communications.
Participates in writing case statements, donor proposals, and briefing notes.
Manages, coordinates and maintains all stewardship materials.
Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit. Required Education
Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent. In addition, requires trade certification, qualification, or on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields. Required Experience
More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
Experience in managing/developing strategic communication plans considered an asset.
Experience in writing, interviewing, reviewing, editing and/or proofreading internal and/or external communications and documents considered an asset (e.g., social media, policy manuals, newsletters, handbooks, legal documents, forms/templates, blogs, training/reference materials, technical documents, webinars, etc.).
Experience with assessing emerging trends, technologies, electronic platforms and potential digital business opportunities considered an asset (e.g., social media, etc.).
Knowledge of relationship building, fundraising and stewardship considered an asset. Required Licenses and Certifications
A CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) certification considered an asset.
Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Job Knowledge and Requirements
Knowledge of concepts and principles in a specialist field that is typically acquired through a combination of advanced professional or academic qualifications and/or substantial work experience.
Provide effective consultation and advice on non-straightforward and/or complex issues.
