**The Opportunity**

The casual Maintenance Worker in collaboration with Building staff, helps to ensure that Barnett House operates in a clean, safe, secure and energy-efficient work environment. The incumbent performs preventative maintenance and basic troubleshooting on the building’s heating, air conditioning, ventilation, security, fire life and safety systems and other related building systems; takes care of equipment; and helps plumbers and other tradespeople in making repairs. Position also undertakes groundskeeping duties such as snow removal to ensure the building is safe for staff and visitors. Specifically, this position is responsible for:

- Performing scheduled preventive and general maintenance on the mechanical and electrical systems. Troubleshooting problems as assigned before seeking approval to call in outside repair experts.
- Performing minor repairs to the building’s mechanical, heating, air-conditioning, ventilation, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, lighting, and other distribution systems.
- Assisting with minor architectural, mechanical and electrical projects. Changing lightbulbs, ceiling tiles, patching and painting walls, providing minor repairs to doors and floors as needed.
- Operating mechanical and motorized equipment as required.
- Responding to staff and tenant on-demand repairs when needed.
- Removing snow using a shovel and other handheld snow equipment.
- Operating the Skid Steer loader and other ATA owned vehicles.
- Various landscaping duties as assigned.
- Assisting with urgent or large meeting room setups and teardowns, and moving heavy items as needed.
- Cleaning and maintaining the boiler rooms, mechanical rooms, maintenance shop and any associated building maintenance and/or storage rooms. Cleaning up after other repairs are completed.
- Assisting with movement of office furniture and helping others to lift heavy items.
- Helping to set up audiovisual equipment for events as required.

**If you have**:

- Valid 5 Class Power Engineering certificate (minimum) from the Alberta Boilers Safety Association.
- BOMA Building operator certification is an asset. 4 sets of related BOMA courses is also acceptable as an alternative to full BOMA certification status.
- Two years of experience performing preventative or responsive maintenance within a large public access building.
- Certification in the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System.
- A Class 5 driver’s licence.
- First aid certification is an asset.
- Knowledge of and the ability to maintain and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems and related equipment.
- Good customer-service, communications, interpersonal, problem-solving, organizational and time-management skills.
- Skid Steer experience. If non exists, then certification will be required once employment begins.
- Basic competence using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- The ability to keep safety training up to date and follow safe work procedures and to work with limited supervision.

**Salary**: $25.41 per hour
