**Who We Are**

**SUMMARY**

The fire and safety specialist will report to the Property Performance Specialist Level 2. Among other things, they will be responsible for assessing the risks, reporting on them and proposing possible solutions on topics related to fire prevention and protection, compliant with the NFPA, CNB, CAN-ULC, CBCS and other codes in force. They will act as a technical alarm and fire protection specialist for BGIS. They will participate in various project planning meetings and will be consulted by the Crown Operations and Maintenance Management teams and also prepare and present training programs. Carry out inspections of the premises and building and will follow the recommendations made by the counterpart at SPAC. They will work closely with the BGIS SSE and Safety team, including management personnel of the various buildings.

**KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**

**_Analysis and Reporting _**
- Inspects the tenants' premises and ensures compliance with the laws and regulations and analyzes and creates an action plan to resolve any issues
- Analyzes the causes of fire alarms, follows up and provides solutions. Validates that changes are acceptable with the concerned parties
- Reports and assists the Lease Management team in accordance with their expectations to assist with the fire and fire protection reports they receive from PSPC to understand, correct deficiencies and support for fire protection corrective actions
- Will be responsible for evaluating and following up on all fire and fire protection reports received from building team leaders to identify deficiencies to be corrected versus observations. They must also be familiar with CAN-ULC codes 536, 537, 524, etc.
- Will be required to assist projects in identifying needs for fire replacement or fire protection
- Will need to know how a fire alarm panel works, its components and programming, in order to provide technical support to building team leaders. They should also be familiar with the operation of fire protection systems
- Must also be able to read and understand fire and fire protection plans to comment on new or existing installations
- Expected to prepare and deliver ongoing training courses on all technical aspects of fire and fire protection

**_Communication _**
- Acts as a liaison with the tenants and ensures they have answers to any questions they may have
- Maintains positive relationships with concerned parties and attempts to meet their expectations while considering owners' issues based on BI-1 requirements. Provides the necessary support with the main client and team leader of the building and assists in the coordination of evacuation plans
- Prepares training plans for fire prevention awareness and the use of fire extinguishers and evacuation. Assists the property management team and various concerned parties, and provides support and training to resolve operational challenges
- Demonstrates leadership and initiative in the development of fire protection projects or action plans
- Manages and reports nonconformities and critical incidents. Actively participates in project requirements meetings and takes responsibility for the areas of their expertise

**KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS**
- College studies (ACS) or a university degree in fire prevention, or fire technician (alarm and sprinkler) or equivalent technical training
- More than 3 years of job-related experience
- Must be a fire and fire protection specialist
- Must be bilingual (French essential, English an asset)
- Have a good knowledge of fire prevention techniques, practices, as well as concepts related to fire prevention laws, regulations and ordinances
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in teams and in working groups
- Ability to adapt
- Self-sufficient
- Ability to interpret data, analyze and popularize information
- Strong communication skills, including written, comprehension and verbal
- Negotiation and problem-solving skills
- Experience working in commercial and office buildings would be an asset
- CFAA certification would be an asset

**Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation**
- Drivers Licence is required
- The following would be considered an asset:

- CFAA training
- Security systems installation and maintenance training
- Fire protection mechanic training
- Certificate in Fire Emergency Management
- Certificate in advanced technologies in fire prevention
