We are Somerset West Community Health Centre (SWCHC), a non-profit, community-governed organization that serves over 18,000 clients annually. Established in 1978, SWCHC provides a wide range of health care services such as primary health care, health promotion, community development, mental health and harm reduction. JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Manager of Children and Youth Services the Lead Child and Youth Worker will support the delivery of After School Programs and facilitate community-based child and youth programming for 6-18 yr. olds. Participating in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of age and culturally appropriate programs to help meet the needs of children, youth and their families using a capacity building and health promotion framework.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Undergraduate degree in Social Services, or an Early Childhood Education, or Child and Youth Care Diploma
- Police check for working with vulnerable populations, no older than 6 months
- Standard First Aid, CPR level C
- Food Handlers Certification
- High Five
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in facilitation of evidenced based programming with children and youth, 6-18 years of age
- Adequate energy level and ability to meet the physical demands of the job
- Working knowledge and use of major computer programs
- Strong knowledge of child development and behaviour guidance techniques
- Effective at communicating and problem solving
- Highly organized, having the ability to muti task
- Ability to work 10 a.m. 6 p.m. for the school year, more flexibility for summer months
- Occasional weekend work for community events (approx.3 times per year)
- Bilingualism (French / English) is preferred
- Commitment to the principles of health equity, inclusion and anti-racism/anti-oppression
- Class G Driver’s License and is insurable under SWCHC
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate after school and community-based programs ensuring all components of the program run smoothly, striving for full enrollment and problem-solving issues as they arise, which will include working after school program shifts and/or booking relief staff
- Provide staff with appropriate task lists or delegate and monitor for completion
- Register clients, maintain files and ensure daily attendance is tracked for each client participating in after school and community-based programs
- Respond to enquiries and referrals from individuals, service providers and external agencies
- Monitor and maintain adequate supplies and equipment for programming
- Create linkages with available community resources i.e. local schools, community centres etc.
- Ensure all program safety measures are being met
- Work closely with and support program staff, volunteers, and student placements using a variety of teaching skills and methods including modelling, observing, demonstrating, reinforcing, etc.
- Report weekly to supervisor and as required
- Provide required stats and reports as required and enter registration and attendance data in PSS
- Assuming Manager’s responsibilities in the Manager’s absence as it pertains to After School Programs and community-based child and youth programming
- Observes and screens children’s progress and behaviour including collaborating with other professionals and parents when needed
- Represents SWCHC at various community functions (ex. community events, information fairs etc.)
- Working closely with the Communications Officer, creating promotional materials ensuring they are updated and publicly available.
