**About the Role**
Reporting to the Logistics and Supply Chain Manager, the Purchasing Officer is a part of Canada Royal Milk’s Logistics & Supply Chain team. The Purchasing Officer is responsible for sourcing suppliers, building supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, contract management, purchase order placement and controlling costs. The Purchasing Officer must ensure that all procurement activities comply with CRM’s standards for quality, safety, and traceability.
Working collaboratively across all departments, with frequent interaction with QA, Supply Chain, Engineering, Production and NDP department, the Purchasing Officer will be involved with all aspects of operational support including coordination with Feihe’s purchasing team in Beijing, China. The Purchasing Officer also supports the Manager in leading activities to achieve the department/company’s goals and objectives.
**Job Requirements**
Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada and have strong English language skills. The ability to read and understand written English and communicate in English both spoken and in writing is a requirement of the job.
Education: Post-secondary education, degree or diploma in Business Management, Supply Chain, or related field.
- Certified Supply Chain Management Professional (CSCMP) designation considered an asset
**Knowledge, Skills and Experience**
- 2-5 years of purchasing experience in food industry is highly preferred
- HACCP, SQF experience is preferred
- Knowledge of import regulations and process is an asset
- Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) software such as Oracle PeopleSoft Financials, Infor
- ERP SyteLine, Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, SAP, NetSuite ERP is preferred
- Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- High level of accuracy and attention to details
- Able to work under pressure and prioritize based on deadlines and importance of tasks
- Proficiency in English (listen, read, write, speak) is required and proficiency in Mandarin is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills.
**Key Duties and Responsibilities**
1. Liaise with cross functional teams such as suppliers, freight forwarders, production, engineering, and quality assurance to ensure ingredients and packaging materials are available to meet production requirements on time
2. Management and mitigation of non-conforming products
3. Search and develop potential suppliers both domestically and internationally; work with QA to audit and approve suppliers; maintain an approved vendor/supplier database
4. Assist in evaluation and negotiation of complex or strategically important contracts to secure terms that are the in best interest of the organization
5. Review cost analysis from Purchasing team with Management to forecast and propose ordering plans
6. Develop strong product knowledge to better facilitate day-to-day procurement needs with vendors
7. Prepare and present regular reports as required by the management
8. Project management; take lead on projects as assigned by manager
9. Negotiate with suppliers to obtain better price and improved service
10. Build and maintain supplier relationships; organize quarterly or semi-annual meetings to review performance and cost reduction ideas
11. Develop and maintain purchasing procedures;
12. Other duties may be assigned.
**Working Conditions**
The standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Most of the work occurs during regular weekday office hours. However, as an international company with frequent interaction with head office, hours of work involved may vary to accommodate differences in time zones. Flexible hours are required and may include evening and week-end hours.
This job operates in office and food manufacturing setting. Travel may be required, both within Canada and internationally.
