**Job Summary**

This Law Clerk's primary responsibility will be providing support for all phases of legal work in the areas of Canadian marketing, advertising and promotions for the Tim Hortons®, Burger King®, Popeyes® and Firehouse® brands. The Law Clerk will work closely with the Canadian marketing and IP counsel, the Global IP Law Clerk, US-based marketing and IP lawyers, the brand marketing departments, and other lawyers within the Legal Department. The Law Clerk will also work closely with outside counsel and counsel for agencies providing services to each brand.

**Essential Duties**:
**Marketing, Advertising & Promotions**
- Review and approve advertising and promotional materials for all media for legal compliance, including television, radio, print, direct mail, online, mobile apps and social media
- Negotiate various marketing, public relations and promotions-related agreements, including advertising agency agreements, trademark licenses, promotion and sponsorship agreements, media buying agreements, professional services agreements and vendor agreements
- Provide support to brands with respect to marketing and promotional activities, including, but not limited to, the execution of consumer promotions such as contests
- Perform other general legal support duties and functions as may be assigned or required by business needs

**Intellectual Property**
- Support Global IP Law Clerk and outside counsel with trademark clearances (including, but not limited to knock out and full searches for Canada and other jurisdictions around the world and provide clearance opinions to client groups), responses to office actions, preparation of amendments, and other substantive submissions to trademark offices around the world
- Enforce the company's trademark rights by taking action against unauthorized third-party users

**Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in law clerk or paralegal studies or related field from an accredited College or University
- Previous legal clerking or paralegal experience at a law firm or in-house legal department
- At least 5 years of experience advising on marketing and/or trademark matters
- Strong organizational, administrative and communication skills are a must
- Attention to detail is a must
- Proven ability to work independently and with others, and to take ownership over files within areas of responsibility
- Ability to work in a flexible and dynamic environment with high volume workload

**This role is a fixed term 12 months contract.**
