We run _Hearts Content Organic Farm_ is a 57-acre farm, between Brantford and Hamilton with the Trans-Canada Rail Trail passing through the middle of our farm. Richard is a retired naturopathic doctor focusing on the cultivation of herbs, medicinal and edible plant walks and the preparation of lip balms, salves, and dried herbs.
We focus on the rescue and redistribution of organic food, conservation projects (wetlands, tree planting and tree care) and protecting farmland in our community. We host eco-farmstay (camping, glamping, and wheelchair accessible suites). We also care for the Langford Schoolhouse, a rural community hub (grounds work, cleaning the hall, renovations). We work to create a welcoming community for migrant farm workers (food drops, English as a Second Language (ESL) and sourcing bikes for migrant farm workers).
We are seeking an energetic, flexible assistant who is eager to work with us.
Helping with...
- organic farming — using farming equipment (electric tractor, walk behind tractor, hand tools) for planting, transplanting, cultivating, weeding, harvesting, drying and storage of herbs, fruit, berries & nuts
- wildcrafting/harvesting and drying herbs, preparing value added herb & food products (salves, lip balms, dried herbs)
- care of organic chickens
- Eco-agri-tourism - preparing, cleaning, and hosting farmstay units and events such as birding, bike tours and plant walks
- some small-scale construction/renovation
- care of the grounds, yard maintenance, tidying buildings and grounds
- sorting rescued food for distribution in the community, working with compost
- conservation related work (tree planting and tree care, pruning, dealing with invasive species, planting pollinator species, care of wetlands)
- social media for online and on farm sales, and promotion of farmstay units
- optional, ESL for Spanish speaking migrant farm workers.
Experience with herbs, and tree and berry care is desired but not necessary.
We are seeking someone who is highly motivated to learn and develop skills related to growing and processing herbs, hosting eco-farmstay, and conservation work and farming skills.

- Passionate about small-scale ecological/organic farming
- Commitment to working until the end of November
- Able to follow instructions and dedicated to completing tasks efficiently
- Ability to work independently and with a small team

- Desire to help maintain an organized, beautiful & safe farm
- Ability to do repetitive tasks and hard physical labour in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain)
- Punctual, dependable, reliable & accountable

- Willing to accept and act on feedback related to your work
- A positive attitude, even in challenging situations
