Job Summary
Stephen J. R. Smith School of Business (Smith) develops future leaders for the global marketplace through a world-class master’s and undergraduate programs.
Reporting to the Director, Career Services, the Manager, Career Education and Coaching Services is a member of the BCC leadership team and is responsible for developing, administering, planning and implementing a current, high quality range of services, information resources, programs and skills development training to ensure that a consistent and robust career education is in place across all applicable academic programs at Smith. The Manager will lead the process developing and implementing career education curriculum and programs in support of the strategic plan of the Business Career Centre. The Manager plays a critical role in ensuring that Smith meets its strategic objectives for personal career development and placement in highly sought after positions for students.
Please note, this position will require frequent travel between Toronto and Kingston, inclusive of evenings and weekends.
**Job Description**:
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Works in collaboration with the Directors of the BCC, in the area of planning and delivery of comprehensive, high quality, and relevant curriculum, programs, resources and services, which are fully and effectively integrated with the academic programs and industry demand.
- Leads development sessions with Smith team members to build career development programs from pre-program to program completion, ensuring consistency, relevance to the audience, accuracy, high-quality content and appropriate delivery across programs
- Collaborates directly on the development and deployment of all BCC workshops/seminars/webinars. The Manager will also collaborate on the deployment of all online products and services offered through the BCC.
- Determines ongoing need assessments for additional career workshops and resources; designs, delivers, and where internal expertise does not exist or where external experts would add credibility to the program, sources those additional career resources for the coaching team as needed
- Collaborates with the Manager, Operations to develop and implement marketing and Communication plans, participant survey process that captures feedback and statistics on all aspects of program delivery including one-on-one coaching, workshops/seminars/webinars, major events and online products and services.
- The manager will be the lead coach for students who are actively seeking managerial or above level positions, providing strategic guidance, advice and support to students pursuing highly competitive opportunities.
- Designs, develops, and maintains a range of reports to ensure the Directors are regularly updated on progress relating to placement and recruitment activities. Remains current on hiring trends.
- Liaise with Director, Corporate Relations and the Business Relationship Managers to explore, develop and enhance opportunities for curriculum development, and alumni mentorship.
- The Manager is the lead on career programming within their assigned functional Career stream and/or programs
- Partners with appropriate student clubs/groups to assist in planning and delivering career related activities or programs
- Assists in the recruitment and selection of coaches when staffing is required; assists with the orientation and training of coaches, both initially and on an ongoing basis.
- Works with the team in the development of strategies to mitigate any BCC brand challenges (including brand strategy of Twitter, Facebook, etc.) Represents the BCC at various School of Business and University career services meetings including internal and external conferences and events.
- Serves as the primary BCC liaison with the Program Alumni Advisory Boards
- Serves as the primary BCC liaison with the Alumni Department to develop alumni engagement strategies
- Oversees the Functional or Industry Prep program design and implementation with Experts in Residence for Distinctly Case, Distinctly Finance and develop additional programs.
- Trains coaching team on a variety of career assessment measurement tools (Career Leader, StrengthsFinder, etc.) and administers assessments to assist students in achieving career clarity
- Partners with the Corporate Relations team to develop off-campus, just-in-time recruiting programs
