Job Summary
The Queen’s Women’s Rugby program aspires to be the best university rugby program in North America.
As an Assistant Coach with the program, you will be responsible for supporting the Head Coach in developing and maintaining a high-performance sport environment that strives to create an unparalleled student-athlete experience that is conducive to team and individual success, academic excellence, and personal growth.
In addition to coaching duties, you will play an important role in supporting the holistic development of the 46 student-athletes that make up the program (e.g. academic, planning, time management, wellness).
A strong community presence is essential - in this role you will be to working with the Head Coach, alumnae and community partners to develop and drive local and regional engagement opportunities that will enhance the profile of the women’s rugby program, Queen’s Athletics & Recreation (A&R) and Queens University within the community. You’ll also work in collaboration with the Head Coach and other A&R units (e.g. Advancement, Recreation) to expand our program capacity via revenue generation opportunities (e.g. camps, clinics, tournaments).
This position is supporting the development of Women in coaching and is supported by specific funding to increase access for Women to high performance coaching roles. This is a full-time position for a period of three years and will be supported by salary and benefits.
This position is located in Kingston, Ontario and flexible work hours, including evening and weekends are required.
**Job Description**:
**What you will do**:
With the leadership of the Head Coach, you will perform coaching duties including (but not limited to):
- Leading team, unit, and/or individual coaching sessions
- Supporting development of team and athlete performance targets and feedback mechanisms
- Practice planning, implementation, and review
- Providing input into yearly and season planning, tactical and technical periodization, and all aspects of performance preparation
- Leading specific areas of analysis including team performance review, preview, and individual performance feedback
- Assisting with short, medium, and long-term goal setting with team members
- Providing input into team selection for OUA and USports competitions
You will play an important role in helping to identify and recruit the best and brightest future Gaels to join the Rugby program. You’ll support the implementation of the Women’s Rugby national and international student-athlete identification and recruitment plan, including travel to local, regional, provincial, and national competitions.
In this role the Assistant Coach is an integral member of the A&R team and as such, will be expected to support the priorities and initiatives of the A&R department, including participation in department activities, attending meetings/events, and contributing to department-wide projects (i.e. I-EDIAA/Safe Sport education, academic mentoring & support, coach professional development, varsity sports operations, A&R operations, etc.)
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- A combination of coaching and/or playing experience (5+ years) within university, provincial, national, academy and/or professional high-performance sport environment(s).
- Fully Certified NCCP Competition-Introduction/World Rugby Level 2 or equivalent.
- NCCP Competition-Development/World Rugby Level 3 certification (or higher) preferred.
- Post-Secondary completion.
- Satisfactory Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening required.
- Valid Province of Ontario Class G driver’s license or equivalent is required.
- Consideration will be given for the equivalent combination of education and experience.
**SPECIAL SKILLS**:
- Demonstrate a proven track record of successfully coaching a specific area of the game at a performance level (e.g. team attack, team defence, transition, set-piece, backline attack, other)
- Demonstrate a proven track record of developing 18-25-year-old high-performance athletes towards provincial, national, and international standards
- Knowledge and experience with game analysis programs, software and equipment is desirable
- The position requires strong organizational, time management, and planning skills. The ability to work independently, problem solve, and effectively manage your own time are critical.
