Construction Estimator

**Job description**:
We are looking for a Construction Estimator to join our team. We are a young, energetic company looking to bring on someone to help be a leader in our office as an estimator. We are a commercial construction firm who bid on public tender work including concrete forming.

**The role**:
This will be a dynamic role with no limits on growth. You will be managing all aspects of our estimating department, bidding on public tender projects as well as our special projects division working self-performed concrete forming, commercial framing, seismic upgrades etc.

**Key responsibilities**:

- Produces quantity take-offs for all areas of the estimate as directed, while ensuring the takeoff is well notated for hand-over to the project team and includes safety and security requirements required by SitkaWest policies and applicable legislation.
- Develops complete estimates on selected projects consisting of project site visit, quantity take-off, pricing, and presentation of the estimate for management review.
- Develops the schedule on which the estimate is built based, requests input from the project team and the various trades required.
- Contacts trades and suppliers regarding invitations, pricing, addenda and tender/bid closings.
- Provides guidance for non-estimating personnel on their estimating related requirements.
- Provides technical training to subordinates and members of the Estimating team.
- Is actively aware of costs related to own work and associated projects, provides input to the project team on all financial cost matters.
- Reviews bid / tender documents for scope of work development and assesses potential risks.
- Interfaces and communicates effectively (written and oral) with the estimating team, with all levels of management, clients and industry contacts; contacts and develops business relationships with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing within estimates.
- Implements and maintains SitkaWest systems and procedures in relation to estimating.
- Assists in the selection and maintenance of subcontractors within a database.
- Performs general administrative and recordkeeping functions.

**Skills & experience**:

- At least 5 years experience in a similar role
- University degree or diploma as a PQS or construction technology program
- Complete comprehension and experience with tendering, scoping and bid leveling of Construction Divisions as per the Master Format.
- Knowledge of construction costs and budgets
- Ability to develop project schedules for pre-construction
