Your Opportunity:
Description:
As an Orthoptist, you will perform advanced-level eye function measurements and ancillary tests to assist ophthalmologists in diagnosing and treating eye disorders and diseases. You will participate in research studies, educational rounds and in-services, and maintain good medical knowledge of ocular anatomy, pharmacology, diseases, and management, including current available treatments and clinical trials.

**Required Qualifications**:
Completion of an orthoptic course from an accredited institution. Active membership with the Canadian Orthoptic Council (COC).

**Additional Required Qualifications**:
Minimum of three years’ experience as an Orthoptist in a healthcare setting, preferably in a hospital eye clinic or an Ophthalmologist’s office. Current CPR certification is required. Fluent in medical terminology and pharmacology (especially in ophthalmic diseases & conditions) Self-directed, relates well to health team professionals, patients and their families. Shows good judgement, excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills. Able to set priorities and make decisions that are appropriate to the position. Competent in use of equipment: visual projector, autorefractor, lensometer, phoroptor, visual field perimeters, trial frames & lenses, direct ophthalmoscope, Hess screen, slit lamp, A- and B- scans, IOL Master, retinoscope, keratometer, tonometer, pentacam and specular microscopy.

**Preferred Qualifications**:
Additional training and certification as an Ophthalmic Medical Technologist is preferred. Current member of the Joint Commission of Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) is preferred.
