We are committed to delivering high quality infrastructure for the residents, businesses and visitors to Halton Region, and are looking for dedicated, forward thinking and enthusiastic individuals to join our Public Works team **Posting ID**: 3852 **Department**: Public Works **Division**: Water & Wastewater Treatment **Pay Range**: $35.11 - $42.87 **Job Type**: Contract < 1 Year **Contract Duration**: 11 Months, 30 days **Hours of Work**: 40 hours per week **Work Location**: Mid-Halton Wastewater Treatment Plant, 2195 North Service Road West, Oakville **Employee Group**: CUPE 2620 **Posting Date**:January 28, 2025 **Application Deadline**: February 4, 2025 - **Local 2620 bargaining unit members will recieve first consideration.** **Job Summary**: The Wastewater Treatment Operator will operate, maintains and inspects wastewater treatment facilities and undertakes minor servicing of related equipment. **Duties & Responsibilities**: - Monitors, analyses and adjusts process parameters. - Performs standard laboratory process testing and maintains accurate records and logs. - Participates on project teams and assists in the evaluation and implementation of technological improvements. - Conducts facility tours for members of the public, schools, universities and Regional Council. - Performs housekeeping, janitorial and other general maintenance duties. - Performs other duties as assigned. **Skills & Qualifications**: **Essential** - A minimum of a secondary school diploma and a Level 1 wastewater treatment license. - Applicants must possess and maintain a valid Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) Wastewater Treatment Class one (1) or higher. A valid Operator in Training (O.I.T) with some wastewater treatment experience may be considered. - Strong mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity and computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook). - Initiative, the ability to work as a team and independently along with strong communication, problem solving and analytical skills. **Preferred** - Post-secondary school education in a related environmental field and with Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) wastewater treatment licensing (Levels 2 to 4). - Familiarity with SCADA technology. - Relevant experience in a laboratory or wastewater plant. **Working/ Employment Conditions**: **Working Conditions** - Flexibility in working hours is required to support 24/7 on-call and there may be periodic meetings and functions outside of regular business hours. - Incumbent will be required to serve on standby and respond to after hour callouts, as specified by Public Works Operations Practices. - The incumbent must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position including lifting, bending, kneeling, crawling, climbing ladders, working from scaffolding and heights. - The ability to work in confined spaces and oversee and perform designated duties in inclement weather is also required. - The incumbent will be required to safely handle designated substances, including caustic and acidic chemicals. - Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times. - Training and relevant PPE will be provided. - Wastewater activities also involve working in unsanitary or odorous conditions at times. **Employment Conditions** - Current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, by the first day of employment. - The incumbent will be required to drive a regional vehicle, a copy of their valid G driver’s license and a driver’s abstract will be submitted by the first day of employment. - In accordance with requirements in Ontario Regulation 191/11 - Integrated Accessibility Standards and the Ontario Human Rights Code, Halton Region will accommodate the needs of individuals with disabilities throughout the recruitment process.
