Associate, Absence Management - 18 Month Contract

The Associate, Absence Management role will manage the absence management portfolio, including short and long-term disabilities, parental leaves, legislated leaves, WSIB claims, ergonomic and medical accommodations. This role is also a key contributor on Capital One Canada’s Joint Health and Safety Committee. As an HR Associate, you have the opportunity to manage day-to-day Absence Management processes and continuous improvement initiatives. This role is an 18-month contract.

Associates working in the hybrid model are expected to come into the office 3 days a week across Tuesdays and Thursdays, reserving Mondays and Fridays as company-wide virtual days. As was true before the pandemic, expectations of being in the office will be balanced with personal life flexibility.

**The Associate, Absence Management is responsible for**:

- Managing the full-cycle absence management process, from the associate's initial request to their return to work, aligned with Capital One’s guidelines and legal parameters
- Proposing, developing, and implementing updates and improvements to existing processes and documentation for the absence management program, and developing new processes as the program and business needs evolve
- Partnering with, and overseeing, external vendors to manage Capital One’s short and long-term disability claims
- Providing guidance and consultation to associates, managers and HR partners on Capital One’s absence management program, return to work plans, and accommodations
- Partnering with key partners in Canada, including Legal, Associate Relations and HR Business Partners on regulatory/employment liability issues as they relate to complex cases
- Remaining current on best practices and legislation impacting absence management, and recommending improvements to develop and maintain company policies, procedures and processes
- Managing escalations and responding to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner
- Reporting on absence management trends using data to highlight key metrics and flag emerging risks and issues
- Ensuring compliance with federal laws and Capital One policy / procedures
- Contributing as the Joint Health and Safety (H&S) Committee member responsible for chairing monthly meetings, completing H&S floor inspections, tracking and documenting all incidents and hazards, submitting H&S incidents to WSIB, and H&S Vendor Management for resolution

**Basic Qualifications**:

- At least 2 years of experience working in the areas of absence management, disability management, return to work management, and/or workplace accommodation
- Strong understanding of related legislation pertaining to leave requirements and legal protections
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Human Resources or a rel
