POSITION: TWO (2) PERMANENT PART TIME BUILDING MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
SITE: KIRKWOOD PLACE - SUDBURY
HOURS: DAYS
SALARY: FROM $36.581/HOUR TO $37.360/HOUR

Under general supervision of the Director, Kirkwood Facilities + Support Services the Building Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing general maintenance and repairs to NBRHC (Kirkwood Place) hospital facilities. Tasks include but are not limited to: performing day-to-day maintenance and repairs, completion of regular facility inspections and preventative maintenance plans, Installation of FFE, special projects and performing other duties as assigned within the facilities department.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Certification/Experience/Knowledge**:
- Mandatory Licensed journeyman in one or more of the following trades: Carpenter, Drywall Finisher + Plasterer, or Painter; with demonstrable experience in alternate skill sets.
- Facilities and Industrial Maintenance Certificate or the equivalent in recent/related experience
- A minimum of five (5) years’ recent, related experience
- Valid Class “G” Driver’s Licence
- General knowledge of building maintenance and/or general construction techniques including build form, structural envelope and general construction practices.
- General knowledge of building systems including HVAC, Life Safety, Electrical, Security, Data cabling and Plumbing considered an asset.
- General Understanding of general building code, (ie: AODA. ESA, TSSA) requirement and familiarity with asbestos legislation, WHIMIS, confined space, fall arrest and electronic door operators would be an asset.
- Job requires knowledge of blueprints, sketches and plans in order to ensure the proper layout and measurements of structures
- Job requires knowledge of relevant by-laws, codes and using manufacturer’s specifications in order to ensure the safety and efficacy of structures and systems, and to aid in determining work methods.
**Skills/Abilities**:
- Job requires good technical and verbal communication skills
- Job requires planning and organizational skills to carry out work with mínimal disruption of institution/office routines
- Physical coordination and dexterity as well as the ability to lift up to 60 Lbs.
- Experience with the use hand and power tools in order to carry out work.
- skills in setting up and working from scaffolding, step ladders, hording and dust controls and occasionally working in confined spaces
- Interpersonal skills to work effective with other department staff and other hospital employees.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with an ability to learn and operate in a fast paced, multi-functional environment where priorities change regularly.
- Basic computer/equipment skills - Outlook/Word/Excel.
- Demonstrated basic mathematical ability.
- Able to work independently and engage managers within a team. Demonstrated ability to balance competing priorities within compressed time frame.
- Able to be highly versatile, organized, energized and self-motivated.
- Maintain good physical condition, ability to fulfil mobile functions within the role.
- Lifting up to 25 kg.
- Ability to act independently with mínimal supervision and as part of a team
- Must demonstrate commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
- Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization.
- Good attendance and work record required
- Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is an asset.
Criminal Reference Check including the Vulnerable Sector Check recent within six (6) months is a requirement
