Reports to: Transition House Manager

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- The Resident Support Worker will work with residents through a human-centered approach, be able to assist in crisis intervention and de-escalation, while following the policies and values of the Umbrella Project.
- Taking the lead in creating and encouraging participation in daily activities in collaboration with current residents, the Program Coordinator and Program Support Worker. Activities should reflect the interests and needs of residents, and can include but are not limited to: Peer support groups, meal prep, cooking, wellness,
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with community organizations, residents, program users, and staff.
- Accurate record keeping and reporting
- Engage in ongoing professional development, training, and skill building
- Supporting residents in maintaining their housing while living at the Umbrella Project and ensuring they follow their responsibilities as agreed upon by the resident and Housing Manager.
- Ensures that names of residents are kept confidential and not shared without informed consent from the individual. All documents are kept confidential and are organized in a space that is accessible to staff.
- Build positive relationships with residents and staff while maintaining healthy boundaries
- Updating resident information in Stepping Stones electronic database and HIFIS as required
- Supports the maintenance of a clean living space and working environment in collaboration with the House Manager and staff.
- Informs the House Manager and/or Executive Director of any issues with the transition house and surrounding area of the building.
- Responsible for the security and safety of the space. Conducts regular checks of common spaces, the entryway, and door to program space. Monitoring the entrance/exit from the building to let residents in and out of the building.

**Qualifications**
- Community College Diploma or University Degree in Social Services, OR a combination of relevant education and experience.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing criminalization, poverty, racialization, mental health barriers, substance use, food and housing insecurity. Demonstrates understanding of colonization, oppression, associated barriers and challenges of those made marginalized.
- Has an understanding and commitment to anti-oppressive, trauma informed, harm-reduction practices, and using a human-centered approach.
- Experience providing mental health support is considered an asset
- Knowledge of community resources throughout HRM

**Must have the following or be willing to acquire**:

- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASSIST)
- Standard First Aid/CPR Level “C”
- Harm Reduction / Naloxone Training
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or comparable De-escalation Training
