**Pay Grade**
- The annual salary range is $70,437- $112,872 (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications, experience, and the placement criteria of Article 14 of the NICFA Collective agreement.
**Position Summary**
**NIC** and**NICFA** have agreed that priority for this position will be granted to an applicant whose appointment would have the impact of mitigating a layoff in the Faculty of Arts, Science and Management.**
The Centre for Applied Research, Technology and Innovation (CARTI) at North Island College, Campbell River, is seeking a 0.75 or 0.8 FTE Research and Innovation Lead in the areas of seaweed sector business, research, product and market development.

- Be aware of, and work within, College policies;
- Be aware of the College Strategic plans and contribute to their development and assist in the achievement of its goals and objectives;
- Develop and lead the implementation of project management plans, from project scoping to project evaluation and reporting. This includes communication with community partner(s) to ensure that projects are meeting the goals and expectations of all partners.
- Conduct applied research and innovation projects and develop sound business cases as per appropriate methodologies and in alignment with requirements of college and granting agency policies.
- Actively participate in seaweed sector networks and committees.
- Assemble background information for research and innovation projects.
- Organize data collection, analysis and presentation of findings, which may be on campus or in community.
- Supervise student research assistants in field, lab and office work.
- Coordinate with other College employees and external research partners regarding scheduling, budget allocations, and other aspects of research and business development.
- Contribute to CARTI’s community and culture by participating in CARTI, NIC and community meetings and events; and furthering CARTI’s reputation for excellence in collaborative research and innovation.
- Thoughtfully incorporate and contribute to CARTI and NIC policies, protocols and initiatives in support of truth, reconciliation, Indigenization and decolonization.
- Purchase and operate research equipment.
- Support marketing and promotion efforts of NIC and CARTI as appropriate.
- Develop regular progress reports for internal and external distribution.
- Work closely with CARTI staff to maintain and monitor project budgets and reporting requirements.
- Other related duties as assigned.
**Required Education & Experience**
- Completion of a Master’s Degree in Business, Innovation, Management or Community Development; or combination of other certificate(s)/degree(s) and demonstrated learning from experience in agri-food business research and innovation
- Extensive experience in program management, particularly in the areas of research commercialization, entrepreneurship, or innovation
- At least two years experience leading business (including non-profit management) in support of regional economic development
- Significant experience leading strategic business planning processes and implementation
- Demonstrated experience in overseeing large-scale, multi-partner, federally funded projects, particularly in the areas of research commercialization, entrepreneurship, or similar fields, or equivalent scale and seniority.
- Expertise in engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, including academic institutions, government agencies, industry partners, and Indigenous communities
- Experience conducting and documenting literature reviews and environmental scans using academic databases, library resources and publicly available reports and stats
- Preference for recent experience and familiarity with industry safety and sector-appropriate protocols
