**Team Leader - Aquatics and Children's Recreation Programs**

**Hours**:20-34 hours per week; Wednesday through Saturday work week.
**Nature and Scope**:
- The Team Leader
- Aquatics and Children's Recreation Programs will assist in supervising and participate in
- lifeguarding and instruction of aquatic programming, ensuring progressive swimming instruction in the Y
- aquatic system and provide safe and enjoyable recreational programs for families and children ages 0-5years.
- Reporting to the Program Coordinator-Aquatics and Children's Recreation Programs, the Team Leader
Aquatics and Children's Recreation Programs will be responsible for the safe and effective operation of the
- day-to-day activities on the pool deck, the quality of aquatic programs and the maintenance and cleanliness of
- the aquatic facility through primarily direct delivery responsibilities. Children’s recreation programming
- includes, but not limited to, supervision of Playcare(childminding) and family activities (parents with young
- children.)- positive, caring, service-oriented environment. A willingness to work a flexible schedule is required.
- This permanent part-time position is entitled to a YMCA-YWCA individual membership; 15 days vacation (pro
rated); paid sick days (as per policy - 18 per year, pro-rated); and a cost-shared benefits package (after
- completion of the probationary period) which includes:

- Participation in the Canada YMCA Retirement Plan - available after 2 years of continuous service (and
having worked a minimum of 700 hours in each of the past 2 consecutive years)**Responsibilities**:
- Assist the Program Coordinators-Aquatics and Program Supervisor-Aquatics with the training,
coaching, and recognition of volunteers and staff.
- On deck lifeguarding ensuring safety of pool users by constantly scanning lifeguard zones
- Leadership of Advanced Aquatics programming through direct delivery of Lifesaving, Lifeguarding and
Instructing courses.
- Monitor commitment to service excellence by role modelling and maintaining YMCA SAM 2.1
standards.
- Facilitate progressive swimming lessons to all ages and abilities in keeping with the Y’s values-based
swimming program.
- Provide safe and enjoyable recreational programs for families and children ages 0-5years.

- Contribute as a member of the Branch Leadership Team in the operation of the Centre
- Serve as the Building Supervisor/Duty Manager as required***
- Provides leadership to the Strong Kids Campaign as requested***
- Adhere to YMCA Child Protection Policies and Procedures
**Qualifications**:
- Minimum 2 years’ relevant experience
- Lifeguard and swim lesson instruction experience
- Post-secondary education in a related field is preferred
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong computer skills; a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office and a registration software is
preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience teaching aquatic fitness is an asset
- The following current certifications:
- Standard First Aid and CPR C
- LS National Lifeguard (NL) - pool option
- LS Airway Management and Oxygen Administration (AMOA)
- YMCA Swim Instructor award (or LS Swim for Life)
- LS Lifesaving Instructor award
- YMCA or BCRPA Aquatic Fitness an asset
- National Lifeguard Instructor (or a willingness to obtain)
- YMCA Trainer - Aquatics will be required (training provided)
- S.E.E. and A.S.T. will be required (training provided)
- A clear Police/RCMP Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening required
- The YMCA/YWCA has implemented a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy requiring all staff
and volunteers to be fully vaccinated.
