PRODUCTION SCHEDULER
SUPERVISOR: Senior Production Manager
DEPARTMENT: Production
Miller McConnell Signs (MMS), Ottawa's top ranked custom sign manufacturer, is seeking a talented individual to assume the important role of Production Scheduler. We are looking for a highly motivated professional who is eager to join a winning and growing team.
Why Join MMS?
Now in our 30th year, we are on a mission to double in size over the next five years. The Production
Scheduler will join a handpicked team of 20 full-time staff. Each member has a passion for doing outstanding work and exceeding our clients’ needs. Our brand is about “going above and beyond” and delivering high quality products and world-class service in an exciting and innovative industry.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Production Scheduler is a hybrid role. This role’s primary focus is that of Production
Scheduler. When time permits and if there is a need, the secondary role of Production Technician may be performed.
The Production Scheduler determines and sets daily, weekly, and monthly manufacturing schedules. This crucial role requires superior organizational and planning skills, since the
Production Scheduler examines and validates all customer orders, staff and inventory availability, and machinery capabilities to effectively set and manage production schedules, often for multiple lines simultaneously in a changing and fast-paced environment.
In addition, the Production Scheduler monitors manufacturing performance and actively adjusts schedules in response to unforeseen circumstances that could impact scheduling, such as supply shortages, etc. The incumbent also identifies opportunities to improve process efficiency to help reduce production costs.
**Responsibilities**:
Develop Production Schedules
The primary responsibility of the Production Scheduler is to determine daily, weekly, or monthly production activities based on a variety of factors. While developing the schedule, the Production
Scheduler must examine work orders and/or customer requests, expected delivery dates, shop
personnel and equipment capabilities and inventory availability, and balance these elements to create an actionable and efficient schedule using the company’s scheduling system.
Modify Production Schedules
In addition to developing the initial manufacturing schedules, the Production Scheduler adjusts to changing conditions within the manufacturing pipeline. For example, the Production Scheduler may have to shift processes due to equipment breakdowns or compensate for delayed material deliveries. This aspect of the role requires excellent skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, and adaptability.
Manage Production Resources
The Production Scheduler plays an important role in managing employees, time, and physical inventories. While managing employees and timelines requires extensive familiarity with the company’s workforce and equipment capabilities, managing physical inventories frequently involves conducting visual and physical counts of inventory to help inform schedule development.
Enhance Internal Processes
The Production Scheduler identifies opportunities to improve the manufacturing or production process through more effective schedule management. In some cases, this may involve introducing lean manufacturing processes to get more done with fewer resources and personnel, or shift processes to eliminate redundant work or combine overlapping activities.
