**Your opportunity**:
Under the general direction of the Campus Safety Director, you will assist with the University of Toronto, Mississauga Campus to identify and support students, staff and faculty that may be or are deemed to be in crisis or at risk.
As a key Campus Safety representative, you will be responsible for responding to Mental Health related Calls for Service with Special Constables, Case Consultation, Educational Outreach to Campus Safety personnel, Students, Staff and Faculty and collaborating with community partners including the Office of Safety & High Risk, Community Safety Office, Health and Wellness, Human Resources and the Sexual Violence Prevention and Support Centre.
Responding to calls for service, many of these incidents will be highly complicated that involve academic difficulties, mental health concerns, substance abuse, issues of trauma, including sexual violence, family problems, and involvement with Student Codes of Conduct, and in some cases the criminal justice system.
Some key responsibilities of your role will involve initial case coordination and management in situations of crisis, critical incidents and the participation in debriefing incidents with the Special Constables.
While most of your time involving education and prevention work takes place during normal working hours, you may be required to be part of an on-call roster that responds, along with other University response staff, to emergencies, and crises that occur in the evenings, on weekends and during holidays. Some events and training sessions may take place outside of regular working hours.
**Your responsibilities will include**:
- Responding to crisis situations using a wide range of interpersonal and persuasive skills
- Screening and making referrals to appropriate resources and services
- Documenting much confidential and sensitive information regarding complex case files for distressed students
- Providing initial clinical support and/or counselling to distressed students in crisis and making referrals to appropriate resources
- Liaising with the health care team to facilitate appropriate internal resources referrals for students in crisis
- Fostering positive relationships with campus resources and community health services providers
- Handling sensitive and/or confidential information
**Essential Qualifications**:
- Master's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum five years of related experience in crisis management, mental health and illness, behavioural issues, including dealing with anger management and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrated experience working with students in a university or educational environment with an emphasis on case management, program development and adult education.
- Ability to communicate effectively with various levels of staff and senior academic administrators about issues facing students in crisis.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with professional staff across the University, in order to set-up a network of aid and response for students in crisis and/or experiencing difficulties.
- Demonstrated ability to relate to students, staff and faculty in ways that build confidence and trust.
- Ability to work in high stress situations.
