**Full Job Description**
Onua Bakery is a unique artisan bakery & café renowned for its freshly baked artisanal sourdough and African-style bakery products. The Café Cook at Onua Bakery is responsible for preparing and creating a variety of café-style menu items, including breakfast dishes, sandwiches, soups, and salads. This role requires a high level of creativity in combining diverse culinary techniques and flavors to deliver unique, high-quality dishes that reflect the bakery’s standards. The Café Cook also assists with menu development, maintains an organized kitchen, and adheres to strict food safety regulations.
**Duties**
**Menu Preparation and Cooking**
- Prepare and cook breakfast items, sandwiches, soups, salads, and other café menu items, ensuring each dish meets quality standards.
- Assemble and plate dishes with careful presentation for a visually appealing experience.
- Use creativity to blend culinary techniques and cultural flavors in menu offerings.
**Menu Development**
- Collaborate with management to design and test new menu items, seasonal dishes, and specials.
- Assist in adjusting recipes and portion sizes to maintain quality and minimize waste.
**Inventory and Ingredient Management**
- Monitor ingredient levels and communicate inventory needs to management.
- Receive, inspect, and store all ingredients according to food safety guidelines.
**Kitchen Organization and Cleanliness**
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment, including food prep areas, storage, and equipment.
- Strictly follow food safety and sanitation standards, including proper food handling and storage procedures.
**Team Collaboration**
- Coordinate with the front-of-house team to ensure timely and accurate order delivery.
- Help train new team members on cooking techniques, kitchen protocols, and menu preparation.
**Qualifications, Skills, and Conditions**:
- Culinary degree or certification in Baking and Pastry Arts is highly desirable.
- Proven experience as a cook in a café, deli, or restaurant, with a focus on creative, cross-cultural cuisine.
- Previous experience in the food industry, preferably in a restaurant or bakery & cafe setting.
- Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, food preparation, presentation, kitchen equipment, and food safety standards.
- Red Seal certification would be an asset.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple orders simultaneously.
- Positive attitude and ability to work well in a team environment.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

**Experience **in cooking is a must, with a minimum of 3 years required. Additionally, possession of a Food Safe, SafeCheck, Food Handler or equivalent certification is preferred.
**Location**: Ottawa, ON K1N 0E7. Please note that you should be able to reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work

Schedule:
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
