**Position Summary**:
The Booking Clerk OR is a member of the Surgical Services team. The Booking Clerk OR is accountable for the accurate booking of OR procedures and WTIS information and the development and maintenance of the OR schedule in collaboration with the Program Manager. The OR Booking Clerk is also responsible for the formal communication of changes to both internal and external stakeholders.
**Position Responsibilities**:
- Books Operating Room procedures in MSM/Meditech, including Wait Time Initiative information as required
- Utilizing a computerized scheduling system schedules and books patient appointments and follow-up appointments which includes booking complex interdisciplinary appointments, adjusting arrangements in accordance with patient and departmental requirements and notifying clinician, ensuring that appropriate date, time, and location are provided to patients.
- Effectively book cardioversion appointments and maintain Endo schedule in computer system, accurately enter surgeons’ names.
- Performs referral functions including duties such as gathering additional/missing information, performing data entry, and receiving and processing related paperwork.
- Performs receptionist and other clerical duties including answering telephones, responding to inquiries and requests for information, obtaining patient files as necessary, printing daily and/or monthly schedules, and forwarding problems and complex queries to appropriate personnel.
- Adapt communication and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with patients and their families, co-workers, physicians, volunteers and others within our health care community.
- Maintains Master OR schedule and develops monthly Operating Room schedules and circulates to stakeholders
- Schedules new referrals based on established criteria and works with physicians, clinic nurses and other allied health professionals to appropriately schedule referrals based on clinical indicators.
- Maintains a variety of records by performing duties such as data entry, collating information, maintaining log sheets and patient statistics on items such as client/patient attendance, treatment types, client/patient or treatment cancellations, and waitlist information.
- Follows up with appropriate team members as necessary
- Communicates in a timely manner with the OR team regarding changes to the Operating Room schedule.
- Communicates with the Program Manager on all issues related to the Operating Room scheduling system etc.

**Position Requirements**:
- Successful completion of Grade 12 or Equivalent.
- Up to date understanding and knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
- Basic computer literacy and navigation skills with the following computer software programs: Meditech, Picis/MSM, Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively prioritize needs both independently and in a team environment.
- Successfully able to perform their function in accordance with prescribed standards that focuses on the priority of People Safety and the delivery of the highest standard of Quality Care.
- Demonstrate the physical and mental capabilities necessary for proper and efficient performance of the essential duties of the position.
**Preferred Requirements**:
- Completion of a certificate course in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology from an approved teaching institution.
- Strong understanding of surgical related activities, treatments, and procedures.
