**Position Details**
- The University of Lethbridge is seeking a full-time Manager Insurance & Risk Services.
The purpose of this job is to manage and oversee the University’s comprehensive insurance and risk management programs to protect institutional assets, ensure compliance, and minimize potential liabilities. This job requires a comprehensive understanding of enterprise, environmental, social, governance and operational risk and a proficiency for risk management concepts and strategy, including for the provision of, and transfer of financial risk through insurance programming.
The Manager Insurance & Risk Services is responsible for administration and coordination of the** **Institution’s Insurance Program through its renewal, procurement and interpretation of terms and forecasting of premiums. Insurance programs include but are not limited to: Primary and excess layers for Property, Liability, Errors and Omissions, Cyber, Student Tenancy, Student Workplace Accident, Business Travel (Catastrophic Loss), Sport Accident, Fleet Automobile and Non-Owned Automobile, Fidelity and Crime, Directors and Officers, Fine Art, and Equipment Breakdown.
This role also provides guidance and advice to the university community relative to Operational Risk Management and governance/policy including but not limited to: Contract review, responsibility for maintaining authorized driver list and guiding principles related to driving for university business, oversight for event risk management protocols. Delivery of day-to-day service and the ownership and maintenance for the university’s international travel risk program, support, and resources including the sole management of the University’s travel abroad registry. The Manager Insurance & Risk Services also administers, collects, process payments for and report on insurable claim matters. Interpretation of insurable coverage in relation to claims, and preparation of self insurance justifications when funding required from institutional self insurance reserve.
This role provides leadership in insurance coverage, operational risk governance, and training initiatives to promote a culture of risk awareness and effective risk mitigation. By aligning risk strategies with institutional goals, the position contributes to the University’s operational resilience and long-term success.
The University of Lethbridge is undertaking a job classification and compensation review for Administrative Professional Officer (APO) positions. As such, the salary range currently assigned for this position may be adjusted as a result of this project.
**Position Qualifications**
**Minimum Requirements**:
- Undergraduate degree with desired focus in risk management.
- Three - five years experience in the insurance industry.
- Industry designation preferred (CIP, CRM, CAIB designation or in the process of achieving).
- Working knowledge of the insurance industry and programs relative to a post secondary environment and ability to assess and quantify risks to make informed decisions for insurance coverage and determine risk mitigation strategies.
- Proficiency in MS Office suite programs and ability to navigate and operate complex operational systems.
- Critical and strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving, analytical and decision-making skills.
- Possess an attitude to learn new systems and platforms and develop within the job.
- Ability to function in a fast paced, dynamic environment with skills to adapt to change, manage workload, deadlines, and pressures of the job.
- Undergraduate or masters level degree with focus in risk financing, business continuity, enterprise risk, risk management or similar is desirable.
- Five years experience in the insurance industry with experience in a post secondary environment is desirable.
- Extensive knowledge of the insurance industry and its operations.
- Experience with forecasting high-level reporting and ability to assess and quantify risks to make projections and informed decisions for insurance coverage and impactful risk mitigation strategy.
