Quality Blasting & Coating, a member of the Cherubini Group of Companies, is looking for a Overhead Crane Operator to join our team in Dartmouth, NS **Summary** The Crane Operator will be primarily responsible for operating overhead cranes to move, position, or place equipment and materials, as required per project. The majority of lifts will be preformed in conjunction with the projects of Cherubini Bridges and Structures. This means that the hired applicant will be lifting bridge components, structural steel, and other projects as assigned. In addition to preforming lifts at QBC's central yard, the Crane Operator may operate or work in the following scenarios: - Pile driving cranes to drive pilings into the ground to provide support for buildings and other structures - Operating cranes equipped with dredging attachments to dredge waterways and other areas. - Operating gantry cranes to load and unload cargo at Cherubini's port side operation. - May be required to use bridge or overhead cranes to lift, move, and place plant machinery and materials. Other responsibilities can/may include: - Operation of a variety of cranes - Conducting routine maintenance work - Installing and removing crane booms, extensions and hook blocks - Positioning crane outriggers, assemblies, and maneuvers in response to hand signals - Installing, rigging, and removing crane attachments. - Performing clamshell, dragline, wrecking ball, pile driving, and hook block operations - Determining safe lifting capacities - Operating cranes with required attachments - Directing operational maintenance on assigned equipment - Instruction and mentorship of apprentices - Other duties as required and assigned **Requirements**: - Class 1 Crane Ticket and/or Provincial Overhead/Travelling Crane Ticket (Nova Scotia) - Currently working in the trade - Available to work night shift (4:30 p.m. - 3 a.m.) - Knowledge of workplace safety policies and procedures - Ability to effectively train/educate apprentices - Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manners - Ability to read drawings and blueprints - Mathematical skills and analytical skills necessary for construction - Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's license - Ability to readily determine the correct tools and equipment necessary to preform appropriate tasks and duties **Work Conditions** - Use of Personal Protection Equipment required (e.g. hard-hat, 6" CSA approved safety boots, hearing protection, safety glasses, etc.) - Regularly work near moving mechanical parts - Exposure to outside conditions including inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust. - Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. - Hazards associated with the construction industry. **What do we offer?** We have an outstanding Safety Culture that focuses on the health and wellbeing of our workforce.
