Reporting to the Director of Communications, the _Communications Officer _writes/edits and coordinates
production of corporate publications (print and digital), contributes to the development and implementation of
communication strategies to support Providence Care initiatives and projects, and contributes to event planning
and related logistics. Working collaboratively with the Director of Communications, the _Communications Officer _
develops relationships with local and regional media to ensure an effective media relations and social media
strategy which raises the community awareness of Providence Care. As a member of the Communications
Department, the _Communications Officer _has regular access to sensitive or confidential information. This
includes information used to develop communications for restructures, financial or operational planning, patient
or staff related information, and other issue-specific materials. The _Communications Officer _works regularly with
members of Providence Care’s management and Senior Leadership Team.
**Role Responsibilities **
Contributes to the development, implementation and evaluation of strategic corporate internal and external
communications plans and activities, often handling sensitive and confidential information.
Supports the Senior Leadership Team, management and other internal committees in communication
planning and implementation
Researches and maintains accurate media contact information
Contributes to strategic media relations planning
Prepares news releases, articles, question and answer fact sheets and backgrounders, as required
Working with other members of the Communications Department, edits and supports Providence Care
corporate newsletters (internal and external), including performing related research, writing, editing, design
and layout; may fulfil role of ‘Editor’ for specific corporate newsletters
Designs, edits and proofreads a wide range of materials, including (but not limited to) flyers, posters, cards
and online materials as needed
Improves access to information on Providence Care website and intranet
Posts information provided by internal stakeholders to the Providence Care intranet
**Required Qualifications and Experience: -**
Degree/Diploma in Journalism, Marketing, Communications or related field, or equivalent of combined
training and recent and related applied work experience
- Two years of Public/Community Relations or Journalism experience preferred, including experience with
desktop publishing/design and writing
- Work or volunteer experience in the not-for-profit or health care sector preferred
- Experience or formal training in digital photography and the use of digital editing software
