Harvest and Production Technician

**Position**

The **Harvest and Production Technician **will play an important role in the production of media for yeast growth, the removal of fresh yeast from propagation vessels, and the cleaning and maintenance of all equipment involved in the aforementioned processes. This position is an opportunity to gain skills that are widely applicable in the brewing and bioprocess industries.

This youth-focused position will be funded by a grant program and aims to provide employment, skill-building, and networking opportunities for recent graduates who meet the following eligibility requirements:
**YEP Program Eligibility Requirements**:

- Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- Must be between 18-30 years old.
- A post-secondary graduate.
- A first-time participant in the YEP program.

The project duration is 12 months, with the potential for a full-time role at the end of the contract based on performance. This is not an internship; it is a developmental role aimed at fostering a long-term career in brewing and bioprocessing.

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**
- Production of aseptic media for yeast growth, including mixing of ingredients, boiling, and cooling.
- Performing quality control measurements such as specific gravity, pH, temperature, and cell counting.
- Inoculation of media with yeast cultures.
- Aseptic sampling of yeast for quality control purposes.
- Removal of yeast from the propagation vessel into aseptic storage vessels.
- Cleaning and maintenance of propagation vessels, mixing system, and all other tools and equipment as required.
- Bulk preparation and storage of ingredients for future production.
- Assisting with general housekeeping and cleanliness of the facility.
- Disposal of waste yeast.
- Record keeping of daily production and harvesting tasks, as well as Food Safety monitoring.

**Requirements**:

- 1-2 years of related experience.
- Educational background in microbiology, brewing, food science, or another applied science would be an asset.
- A background in home or professional brewing would be beneficial, but not required.
- Experience working in another light manufacturing facility would be an asset.
- Experience with CIP procedures.
- Familiarity with manufacturing software such as an ERP.
- Experience working with aseptic procedures such as aseptic technique, an asset.
- Forklift certification, an asset.
- First Aid training and a familiarity with industrial workplace safety standards, an asset.
- Experience working in a team to complete complex projects, desired.
