Investment Associate, Total Fund Management - Strategic Tilts

We are growing our Portfolio Strategy Team As an Investment Associate you will be responsible for investment research related to running the OTPP Total Fund portfolio. The Portfolio Strategy team leads various functions including strategic asset allocation, opportunistic tilts, and integration of private investment activities with the overall fund directive. This team aligns OTPP's risk and return needs with Investment departmental strategies and enables innovation and exploration of new opportunities from a both a long-term perspective and a more cyclical horizon.

The output of this role influences the CIO's dynamic asset allocation decisions, which is essential to the Fund’s success going forward in an increasingly challenging and complex macro/geopolitical backdrop.

What you'll do- Maintain and improve OTPP's macro and market analytical infrastructure by developing tools in Python, which allow the team to visualize, quantify and analyze data and cross-asset macro developments.- Primary responsibilities include researching and presenting corresponding analysis related to top-down market and asset allocation views.- Contribute to the team’s fundamental, macro-based analytical framework - examining valuations, economic cycles, positioning and trends to advise the CIO when the plan should deviate from its strategic portfolio either to mitigate risks or capture an exceptional opportunity.- Analyze investment opportunities across various asset classes and countries, and assess for their fit into the total fund portfolio.- Responsible for incorporating insights from our economics team and our external manager partners into our investment decision making, while helping to operationalize our thematic investment thinking.- Evaluate fundamental, value-based indicators for equities, credit, fixed income, foreign exchange, and inflation sensitive assets across developed and emerging markets.- Keep up-to-date with economic, political, social, and technological developments globally.- Work with the Portfolio Analytics team to develop intuitive, explainable quantitative analytics relevant to our investment framework.- Create presentations and communication materials in order to deploy the framework and ensure support from senior leaders.- Work cross-functionally and collaboratively with other teams to ensure continued alignment with OTPP’s mission, vision and values. This includes supporting and sharing knowledge with other areas of TFM and responding to ad hoc requests from other departments. You will also gain exposure to different asset classes, such as equities, credit, fixed income, foreign exchange, inflation sensitivities and real assets.- Play a meaningful role in devising the Fund’s annual Investment Plan.- Produce analytical work which recommends solutions to the CIO on our dynamic asset allocation, geographical, thematic, and sector framework

What you'll need- Graduate degree in finance and/or economics is an asset- Intermediate to advanced Python programming skills- Up to 2 years of relevant working experience- CFA is an asset- Passion for investing, financial markets, asset allocation and related research- Keen interest in global macro investing, policy, political developments and how they impact markets- Intellectually curious and have a diverse range of interests that includes desire to learn about portfolio construction and both public and private market- A demonstrated interest in international financial markets, economies and current affairs- Ability to engage and develop working relationships across the Fund and a wide variety of departments- Excellent oral and written communication skills- Very strong analytical and quantitative skills- Expertise with financial reporting systems an asset- Advanced Excel and Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint)
