Position Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Transportation and Facilities, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for ongoing maintenance, oversight of repairs, coordination of maintenance work and the development and implementation of Preventative Maintenance Plans. Prioritization and co-ordination with the management team.
Key Responsibilities
- Co-ordinate and prioritize work requests with management
- Perform basic maintenance duties for our properties, including:

- Plumbing: un-clog sinks, toilets, showers and tubs; repair/replace toilets, faucets
- Electrical: repair/replace broken switches/plugs/fuses; replace smoke detectors
- Carpentry: repair/replace damaged wood trim; make doors/windows operable; repair/replace door/window hardware
- Glazing: replace broken door/window glass
- Painting: exterior and interior
- Telephone: relocate phone lines; replace telephone units
- Drywall repair
- Unit turnaround overflow
- Process maintenance work orders through the completion
- Conduct scheduled inspections and testing of building mechanicals and safety equipment and maintain proper documentation in our equipment and fire safety logs.
- Maintaining the facility's grounds (grass cutting, weed control, snow removal, washing windows and tables, smoking ashtray, etc.).
- Assist employees, residents and visitors through exceptional customer service as needed or requested by Management to support Larga operations.
- Perform assigned duties promptly and accurately.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures and complying with security regulations.
- Assist with additional tasks as and when needed or assigned by management or senior maintenance, both within and outside of the role and department, to support Larga operations.

Minimum Qualifications
- 1 to 2 years of similar experience in residential building maintenance

Skills and Abilities
- Ability to assess and prioritize work requests to determine the daily schedule
- Sensitivity to our residents in a supportive environment
- Ability to work independently
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Available for major building system emergencies after hours if necessary
- Ability to perform maintenance work safely
- Good customer service skills
- Ability to safely operate facility equipment (snow blower, lawn mower, weed trimmer, power tools etc.)
- Familiar with residential building maintenance
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and at least a basic understanding of Inuktitut preferred
- Ability to remain alert and maintain a high level of concentration
- Good judgement and the ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations
- Knowledge of the Larga Baffin premises
- Time management

Preferred Qualifications
- Inuktitut is a strong asset
- First Aid / CPR/ AED trained (or a willingness to learn)
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training (or a willingness to learn)
