Job Description
**Title**: Communications and Engagement Specialist, Quebec
**Terms**: (1-year term contract) full-time (34 hours per week, Monday to Thursday)
**Location**: Montreal and remote
**Reporting to**: Director of Communications & Mobilization, Quebec
**Salary**: $50-$60k based on experience

**About the role**
As the Communications and Engagement Specialist, you will be an integral part of the Communications and Public Engagement team in Quebec. You will use your expertise in communications, social marketing and engagement to implement various projects and initiatives that raise awareness and generate action on environmental and climate-related issues.
You will produce inspiring, compelling and actionable web and social media content, newsletters, press releases, editorials, reports, and more. You will contribute to the strategic planning, coordination and implementation of day-to-day communications and engagement activities, including outreach to partners and media and event planning.
Working with the Communications and Public Engagement team in Quebec, and with regional and national campaign leads, you will help set clear objectives for communications and engagement projects and activities. Your adaptable approach to operational and strategic communications will enable the DSF to maintain and increase its impact, public presence, credibility and relevance within francophone audiences in Quebec and other target audiences across the country.
You will closely monitor external environment and social justice-related issues, news stories, events and trends, in order to seize opportunities to communicate key messaging, raise awareness and generate engagement within the DSF community and general public.
**Responsibilities**:
- Develop, implement and evaluate, strategic communications, social/digital marketing and engagement plans and initiatives with the aim to connect and engage with diverse target audiences and to generate measurable results and impacts.
- Create, write, copy-edit and disseminate clear and compelling content and narratives across DSF’s platforms, including: newsletters, petitions, social media content, advertisements, presentations, web content and blogs, press documents, summaries, reports, etc.
- Work with and manage external contractors and suppliers, manage invoices and budgets.
- Plan, coordinate and evaluate in-person and online events.
- Coordinate and review translations done by volunteer and professional translators
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
**Skills, experience and training required**
- Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field.
- 5+ years of professional communications and engagement experience.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, execution, coordination and evaluation of communications and engagement projects and strategies.
- In-depth knowledge of current and up-and-coming digital communication strategies and tools (social media platforms, SEO, Word Press, etc.) and experience in reaching and engaging target audiences online.
- Superb writing and editing skills (reports, newsletters, social and digital content, media documents, etc.); Proven ability to translate complex issues into simple narratives and messages for different and diverse audiences.
- Excellent understanding of communications and social marketing trends.
- Excellent understanding of environmental and climate-related issues.
- Proven experience implementing social or digital marketing and citizen engagement campaigns.
- Knowledge of social change theories is an asset.
- Experience with media relations and familiarity with regional media landscapes is an asset.
- High degree of sociability and discretion in building relationships
