**Position Title**: Custodian 1

**Reports To**:Lead Hand, Facilities

**Position Summary**:
Under the direction of the Lead Hand, Facilities, is responsible for the day to day maintenance operations at North Bay Public Library.

**Summary of Major Responsibilities**:
Responsible for the day to day maintenance operations at North Bay Public Library:

- Sweeps and mops all floors, and stairs, vacuums and spot cleans carpets, washes walls, shelving and removes trash.
- Cleans all washrooms and sweeps and mops floors in washrooms.
- Cleans and sanitizes areas.
- Ensures the security of the building; unlocks/locks the main doors for the general public and staff.
- Picks up books and videos from drops.
- Performs preventative maintenance.
- Performs minor electrical and plumbing repairs.
- Makes repairs and adjustments to cleaning equipment.
- Makes minor repairs to building furniture and hardware.
- Makes minor repairs to drywall; paints designated areas.
- Monitors and maintains computerized heating and cooling systems for building.
- Checks building for lighting and equipment performance.
- Maintains inventory of regular custodial and maintenance supplies.
- Sets up auditorium and meeting rooms; assists in set -ups and take-downs for special events.
- Handles/disposes of routine hazardous material using appropriate gear and protocol.
- Moves furniture, equipment and supplies.
- Assembles shelving and furniture as required.
- Shovels and salts all entrances.
- Attends to any building maintenance problems as they arise.
- Other duties may be assigned as required.

**Qualifications Required for Position**:

- High school diploma.
- Two (2) years’ experience as a Custodian of a commercial building.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Demonstrated handyman skills (electrical, plumbing, painting, and mechanical).
- Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License.
- Good working knowledge of proper/safe use of cleaning materials.
- Ability to work independently as required.

**Job Type**: Part-time

**Salary**: $25.44 per hour

Flexible Language Requirement:

- French not required

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Evenings
- Morning shift
- Weekend availability

The North Bay Public Library has a vaccination policy in place. All applicants must be fully vaccinated.
