**Refood Food Rescue Foundation - Greater Vancouver**
Based on a report by the BC Center for Disease Control (BCCDC), about one in nine households (11.8%) in British
Columbia are considered food insecure. Refood Food Rescue Foundation is a non-profit charity that responds to this problem by reducing food waste, repurposing unattractive food, and re-educating the public about food.
By partnering with grocers and local non-profit organizations, we serve at-risk populations with surplus food that otherwise would have gone to waste. Since inception, Refood has delivered over 500,000 meals to those in need in the Greater Vancouver area.
**Volunteer position**: Indigenous Food Bank Cook
**No. of openings**: 2
**Estimated Time Commitment**:
Once a week (around 2 to 4 hours)
Immediate start date; minimum commitment of 3 months is required.
**Scope of Work**
- Cooking and preparing meals with two other experienced volunteers
- Will be cooking in a commercial kitchen at the Vancouver Native Housing Society/Orwell Hotel
- Day of the week to volunteer will be discussed once hired
**Desired Qualifications**
- Basic cooking skills
- Motivated and punctual
- Committed and passionate in helping others
- Good communication skills
- Enjoys serving and interacting with clients
**Accountability**:
- The Indigenous Food Bank Cook will have end-to-end accountability of cooking tasks while reporting to the Program Manager
**Benefits**
- Receive a letter of recommendation after the successful completion of a project or after a 6 months term. Refood will also serve as a reference, if appropriate.
**Requirements**:
- Completion of Criminal Record Check
**Job Type**: Part-time
Pay: $1.00-$2.00 per year
