Communications and Special Projects Staff Sergeant

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Communications and Special Projects Staff Sergeant is responsible for the direction and supervision of Communications Agents and the practices and procedures conducted in the Communications Centre. Additionally, the Communications and Special Projects Staff Sergeant will be responsible for technical and electronic security and surveillance projects and responsibilities at West Edmonton Mall.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Leading, coaching, supervising and mentoring Communications Agents under their span of control as they adhere to West Edmonton Mall Security department policies and procedures and carry out their duties and responsibilities.
- Identifying best practices to be implemented in the Communications Centre and be capable of stepping in and preforming the duties of a Communications Agent if required.
- Researching, identifying and implementing technological advancements in and for the Communications Centre while staying in tune with surveillance industry developments.
- Managing and maintaining various databases and information systems related to Communications Centre operations of West Edmonton Mall Safety & Security.
- Scheduling and deploying the appropriate number of Communications Agents in order to address historical and identified staffing needs.
- Reviewing completed communications reports, logs, records, and summaries for correct and accurate information.
- Providing support and administration in relation to the maintenance of all closed-circuit televisions, security alarm systems and card access systems for West Edmonton Mall
- Acting as a liaison with external vendors, suppliers, service technicians and the West Edmonton Mall IT department in relation to surveillance cameras, door card readers and door alarm panel installations, maintenance, and upgrades.
- Responsible for maintenance of all UHF radios owned by West Edmonton Mall, along with the Help Phone system that is located throughout West Edmonton Mall.
- Performing other related duties as required.
Desired Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education and/or formal technical training in the Security, criminology, or a related Information Technology field is an asset.
- Previous Supervisory experience and/or the ability to act in a Supervisory capacity is required.
- Must be of good character and be one who acts in a lawful and ethical manner.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills that include written, verbal, and formal presentation skills are needed to be successful in this role.
- Excellent technical and computer skills including a strong working knowledge of MS Office programs Word, Excel and Outlook as well the ability to adapt to other specialized surveillance software programs is required.

- This is a full-time position that requires flexible availability.
- Must be able to pass a basic security clearance.
- This position is also eligible for participation in our 4-day work week program.
