We seek excellent students, faculty, and staff to join us in what has become known as the "Western Experience" - an opportunity to contribute to a better world through the development of new knowledge, new abilities, new connections, and new ways to make a difference. **About Us**: The **Office of Indigenous Initiatives** is responsible for championing and/or supporting through advice and counsel Indigenous initiatives across a broad range of areas including student affairs, academic programs, workforce planning, space planning, policy and implementation, and training and development etc... Through collaborative and community-engaged processes, the Office will facilitate partnerships that increase Indigenous voices and presence across all levels of work, study, and research at Western. Within this Office, the **Indigenous Student Centre** unit is organizationally housed, and offers culturally relevant wholistic and strength-based programs and services geared toward Indigenous students at Western. **Responsibilities**: - Meet 1-on-1 or in groups with Indigenous high school students in a mentoring relationship through an independent tutorial process. - Work with students on a case-by-case basis helping to motivate and inspire them to complete their assignments, review content, assist them in organizing themselves, planning and solving problems, and checking completed work. - Assist with in-classroom learning. - Communicate regularly with the IAT Coordinator and attend mandatory meetings/training. - Connect with teachers/support staff regarding student progress and needs. - Potentially assist Program Coordinator with research work for publication on Indigenous education reform.
Supervisor: Under the direct supervision of IAT’s Program Coordinator, Joel N. Persaud **Qualifications** **_ Required_**: - Must be enrolled as a student at Western University (either full-time or part-time). - Knowledgeable of Indigenous secondary student needs and experiences. - Knowledgeable and sensitive to working with diverse Indigenous student populations. - Must have excellent communication skills, time management and organizational skills. - Must be able to take initiative and work independently. - Knowledgeable of the _University of Western Ontario Code of Student _Conduct_ **_ Preferred_** - Have experience tutoring students. - Preference will be given to applicants who self-identify as Indigenous/Aboriginal. **Why Western?**: **Background Checks**: While transcripts are not required for the interview, they may be required prior to an offer of employment.
