**Position Description**:
**UNIT PROFILE**:
Patient and Family Collaborative Support Services is made up of a range of programs driven and staffed by individuals who have lived the experience of mental illness and/or addiction, and family with lived experience. The service includes the Mental Health and Wellness Centre, Peer Support Council and Peer Support Providers. All programs provide services to both inpatients and outpatients of the Mental Health & Addiction Program. The Mental Health and Wellness and Family Resource Centre also provide service to family members.

Reporting to the Patient & Family Collaborative Support Service Manager, the Peer Support Provider is to provide formalized peer support in services of the MHAP for family members individuals living with mental illness &/or addiction through one to one work, peer driven groups, advocacy and role-modeling. The Family Peer Support Provider advocates for and represents the family’s voice of individuals with the lived experience of mental illness and/or addiction on committees both internal to and external to SJHH; supports the delivery of family education, information and resources within the MHAP.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Grade 12 Diploma
- Certificate in Peer Support Training from recognized training provider and or relevant work experience with demonstrated ability and understanding of core essentials of peer support provision preferred
- Minimum 1 year related experience (volunteer or employed) providing peer support in a mental health and/or addiction setting
- Formal training in Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) an asset
- Personal lived experience as a family member of an individual(s) with of mental illness and/or addiction an asset
- Demonstrated ability to role-model strong self-care and self-management strategies in recognition of the need for health, personal-growth, and resiliency in peer support work
- Familiarity and understanding of serious mental illness/addiction and mental health systems preferred
- ASIST or similar Suicide Intervention Training preferred
- Experience/training in group facilitation preferred
