**Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Operations, the Education Coordinator will provide administrative leadership to the education division within the Department of Medicine to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the department’s undergraduate and postgraduate academic programs. The role will ensure clear and current information is available and efficient processes are in place for academic leaders and staff within the programs, as well as for current and prospective learners. The role will participate in the development, management, and implementation of academic plans, policies, and procedures related to Medicine’s academic programs, and identify opportunities for improvement, while ensuring adherence with university policies and procedures and accreditation standards. The Education Coordinator will oversee and participate in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating both new and ongoing programs and services to support teaching excellence for the Department of Medicine. The role will ensure that all Medicine education programs meet accreditation standards, and oversee the development, maintenance and implementation of curricular activities that further strengthen the medicine education programs. The Education Coordinator will supervise education staff on their day-to-day functions and will provide coaching and training to ensure progression of day-to-day tasks. The Education Coordinator will provide comprehensive consultation on a variety of processes to ensure program stakeholders are served effectively.
**Qualifications**:
**Education**:
- Undergraduate Degree in Education or related field
- Master’s Degree in Education is preferred
**Experience**:
- 5 years’ experience providing administrative support and coordination in a higher education institution
- 5 years’ experience supervising staff; preferably in a unionized environment
- Experience developing, implementing and interpreting academic policies and procedures is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of educational technologies, and outcome-based curriculum design
- Ability to evaluate and advise on the viability of new technologies and innovations in learning
- Interpersonal skills to liaise with prospective and current learners, staff, faculty and other members of the Western community
- Ability to handle complex, ambiguous situations with diplomacy, calmness and good judgment
- A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
- Ability to listen, inform, explain, and advise students on academic processes and regulations
- Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to effectively present information, and conduct training sessions and workshops
- Openness to recognize when change is necessary, and to develop, implement and lead effective change
