**Duties**:
Under the management of the Dean of Academic and Career Preparation, reporting to the Pathways to Post Secondary Coordinator, the Trades Pathways Coordinator (TPC) serves as a member of the Pathways team within the Faculty of Academic and Career Preparation and the larger Vancouver Island University community. The Trades Pathway is an externally funded program to prepare individuals from populations who are underrepresented in Trades for entry into Trades programs. The TPC will be responsible for identifying high-priority populations, recruitment, mentorship and support of Trades Pathways students. The TPC will work closely with ACP Faculty and the receiving Faculty to ensure students are able to successfully transition into their chosen trade in post-secondary education.
This activity will be accomplished primarily through face-to-face contact in areas where programs are being delivered, making the ability to travel to various program sites essential. The incumbent must be comfortable facilitating interactions both face-to-face and using technology (Zoom, MS Teams, etc.), using Outlook and other MS office software, and shared drives.
The incumbent will ensure students with individual learning challenges, diverse cultural and varied educational backgrounds are welcomed and supported in the Program. The incumbent will have a strong knowledge of adult education practices and a willingness and demonstrated ability to mentor students from a wide range of cultural and academic backgrounds.
**Required Qualifications**:
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and relevant experience.
- Experience in program coordination and instruction.
- Proven experience building relationships with other departments and employees and knowledge and/or experience in ABE and ELL programs and courses.
- Proven experience building relationships with community partners.
- Demonstrated ability to develop innovative and relevant curriculum in line with defined program outcomes.
- Proven experience developing and delivering targeted curriculum, workshops, presentations, and activities.
- Ability to plan, assess and evaluate programs.
- Ability to provide leadership and guidance to administrative support staff and students.
- Strong sense of empathy and ability to connect with diverse individuals.
- Experience in trauma informed pedagogy.
- Responsiveness to unexpected and rapid changes in environment and student base.
- Ability to adapt program structures rapidly.
- Ability to think outside the box and facilitate innovative learning opportunities that support student progression towards admission to Trades programs.
- Demonstrated high level of oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to take initiative.
- Computer proficiency is required.
**Preferred Qualifications**:
- Experience working in a post-secondary setting.
- Experience working with newcomer populations and their supporting organizations.
- Recent documented experience teaching ELL.
- Familiarity with Trades programs and fields.
- Experience with programs and systems at Vancouver Island University.
