Alberta Health’s Audit and Compliance Assurance Unit (ACAU), in the Financial Reporting Branch provides compliance, monitoring, and performance oversight to improve quality and accountability of health practitioners’ claims for benefits under the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP). ACAU conducts audits of practitioner submitted claims for benefits, reassessments of claim benefits, recoveries of over-payments, promotes best practices and monitors practitioners’ adherence to legislation, policies and processes.
**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Manager of Audit and Compliance Review Services, the Auditor is part of a team responsible for the completion of practitioner compliance reviews, audits and projects. The responsibilities and primary activities of this role encompass the typical phases of conducting compliance reviews and audits: planning, execution and reporting. The Auditor is part of a larger team and aspects of each of these phases could be conducted under the guidance of the Audit Lead and/or Manager.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist with and/or conduct research and analysis by utilizing all available information resources to obtain the required knowledge of business that will be applied to assess the inherent risks of the assignment and to target areas of compliance interest.
- Assist with planning for data analytics and analysis that results in meeting the intended needs for the compliance review; and that clinical staff have the information required to complete the review of billings upon medical record examinations.
- Complete interviews with practitioners and/or their medical support staff, walk through of the performance of billing processes and prepare documentation by adhering to policies and processes.
- Debrief and discuss with Audit Lead on the findings uncovered in the course of the assignment.
- Responsible for communicating technical compliance review findings in a clear and concise manner with supporting information.
- Lead low to moderate complex projects and participate on project teams external to the ACAU.

**Qualifications**:
University graduation in a related field plus 3 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.
Equivalency:
- Related diploma plus 5 years directly related experience
- Accounting designation and 1 year additional related experience
Required:
- Experience with compliance reviews, audits and risk assessments
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills which include verbal and written
- Experience with interviews and presentations to internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work independently with mínimal or limited supervision
Assets:
- Canadian professional accounting designation (CPA) or Internal Audit Certificate (CIA) or Certified Internal Auditors (IIA)
