Security Guard

Preference will be given to those who have education in Protection, Security and Investigations, Police Foundations, or an education similar.
- Standard First Aid CPR-C/AED certification is required.
- Accredited Use of Force Training is required.

**Those who have access to their own personal vehicle is also preferred.**

**Shifts**:
Must be able to commit to the assigned schedule consisting of:

- Will be based on a mandatory two-week rotation.
- 8-12 hour shifts of either days, evenings or nights.
- Must be available weekdays/weeknights, weekends.

**Responsibilities**:

- Conducting mobile and foot patrols of Grand River Transit facilities and assets.
- Fare inspection device, and ensure customer compliance with fare policy.
- Delivering emergency/incident response, investigation, patrol, crime prevention, fare and revenue protection, detection, deterrent and customer service to protect GRT employees, customers, facilities and vehicles.
- Acting as a Transit Ambassador with emphasis on good customer service and public relations.
- Enforcing the Region of Waterloo Code of Use By-law 13-050, Trespass to Property Act and Criminal Code, Federal Statutes and Provincial Acts.
- Providing assistance to the public and first response to emergency situations.
- Conducting full investigations and assisting police services when required.
- Conducting patrols to maintain officer presence and ensure crime prevention.
- Reporting criminal activity to Waterloo Regional Police Service and providing assistance if required.
- Assist emergency personnel with medical emergencies.
- Dealing in confrontation with unruly persons, intoxicated persons, mental health and substance abuse.
- Carry out court duties as required.
- Carry out other duties as assigned.
- Protect company’s property and staff by maintaining a safe and secure environment.
- Take accurate notes of unusual occurrences.
- Monitor and control access at building entrances.
- Watch alarm systems or video cameras and operate detecting/emergency equipment.
- Access control for the facility/area.
- Ensuring that the facility’s safety and emergency procedures are followed in response to site emergencies.
- Demonstrating judgement, common sense, and decision-making ability, particularly when required to take charge and direct others in emergencies or other incidents.
- Utilize appropriately and accordingly any training protocols provided.
- Enforcing the Region of Waterloo Code of Use By-law 13-050, Trespass to Property Act and Criminal Code, Federal Statutes and Provincial Acts
- Communicate accordingly and appropriately with marginalized individuals.
- Interact regularly with the public with importance on good customer service and public relations.
- Maintain composure and safety in a potential high-pressured situation where de-escalation could be instant.

**Skills**:

- Proven work experience as a security guard or relevant position.
- Trained Security Guard with a education in a related field.
- Ability to operate detecting systems and emergency equipment.
- Excellent knowledge of public safety and security procedures/protocols.
- Surveillance skills and detail orientation.
- Integrity and professionalism.
- Ability to operate security equipment/systems, computers, radios, phones.
- Meticulous record-keeping, report writing, observation skills.

Pay: $24.50 per hour

Schedule:

- 12 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Night shift
- Weekends as needed
