Communications Assistant

**The Role**
Are you a passionate storyteller eager to make a real difference? As the Communications Assistant at Liberty For Youth (LFY), you will be the voice that shares impactful stories of transformation and inspires our community to support at-risk youth.
You will craft compelling content across various platforms - including blogs, videos, websites, social media, and print materials - to vividly illustrate the positive impact of LFY's work and drive community engagement and donations.
You will be instrumental in maintaining and elevating LFY's brand and reputation by staying ahead of communication trends within the charitable sector. Your work will ensure our community deeply understands and celebrates the successes of the youth we support
**Primary Duties and Responsibilities**:
Digital Content:
- Develop engaging digital content for websites, blogs, articles, and animated explainer videos.
- Implement SEO best practices, including ongoing keyword research.
- Create visual concepts for promotional activities and organizational updates.
- Manage and execute social media marketing campaigns to increase engagement and donations.
- Distribute LFY's message effectively across various online channels.
- Analyze and report on digital marketing KPIs for funding reports.
- Manage and update website content.
- Purchase and strategically manage sponsored/boosted/paid social media ads.
Social Media Management:
- Curate and schedule compelling, authentic content across all social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, Snapchat, YouTube, LinkedIn) in alignment with best practices.
- Collaborate with LFY staff to identify stories and initiatives for social media.
- Actively monitor social media channels, responding promptly and professionally to community engagement.
Event & Campaign Support:
- Produce and support social, digital, and in-person events.
- Develop communication tools and canvassing materials for events.
- Create engaging invitations for events and campaigns.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of communication campaigns.
Internal & External Communications:
- Assist with the creation of written publications, newsletters, event programs, and presentations.
- Provide support for public speaking engagements.
- Assist with basic graphic design using tools like Canva.
- Coordinate with media, manage internal publications, and support public and community relations activities.
- Assist with the development and implementation of communication policies and strategies.
- Ensure adherence to organizational branding guidelines.
General Communications Support:
- Provide copyediting and proofreading services to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency in all messaging.
- Serve as a spokesperson/communications agent in the Director's absence.
- Seek input from stakeholders to inform communication content.
- Attend relevant communications training to stay current on industry trends.
- Assist with general office duties and events as needed.
**Skills & Qualifications**
- A minimum of a two-year post-secondary diploma in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field; equivalent experience will also be considered
- Access to reliable transportation for travel within the community.
- Proficiency in Adobe Suite, Office 365.
- Proven experience in managing a website.
- Basic video skills and video editing skills for YouTube content.
- Written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in design software such as Canva.

**Working Conditions**
- Standard office environment.
- Requires typical physical demands of office work, including prolonged sitting and standing.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities.
- Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as required.
- Awareness that LFY serves at-risk youth and young offenders, potentially involving exposure to challenging or crisis situations.
**Criminal Record Check is Required for Vulnerable Sector - Clear Record is Required.**
**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 18 months
Pay: $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
Work Location: In person
