Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Category Manager to join our team. As a Category Manager you are an expert in the merchandising, pricing, management, and sales of a certain group or type of products. As the expert of a specific category of products, the in-depth knowledge of the category manager will drive the pricing, shelving, marketing, and promotions of the category's products in order to make them as visible, accessible, and appealing to customers as possible. A successful category manager contributes to the profitability of a retail location by increasing the volume of products that are sold within the category and improving the speed of inventory turnover within the category. As part of achieving category goals, category managers often assist or take charge of the ordering, pricing, and in-store organization of products. As a Category Manager with INS Market you will be responsible for several categories of products. You will need to have a working knowledge of the products, consumer needs, buying practices, sales goals and retail environment related to your merchandise category.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Monitor weekly POS sales data and provide analysis on all assigned categories. Make recommendations for delisting items based on analysis. Review top sellers and bottom sellers to make recommendations for sales improvement. Assess category performance and growth, refine current strategies.
- Monitor monthly distributor/supplier reports and provide analysis on all assigned categories.
- Reach sales targets / rebates as per the budget.
- Compare purchase volume by store to POS sales data in key locations in assigned categories.
- Provide recommendations for changes in purchasing and provide solutions to minimize the impact of backorders.
- Monitor individual store sales performance, follow up as needed to ensure planograms, replenishment of core and promo products are in place.
- Communicate with V.P. Administration to review updates that are required for core planograms.
- Modify planograms based on sales analysis / delists from supplier.
- Meet with suppliers in field to review performance and ways to improve.
- Maintain regular contact with distributors/ suppliers regarding top sellers, slow movers, out of stocks, back orders, product freshness, unresolved issues at stores.
- Create new planograms for all new, converted, and transferred stores.
- Discuss ongoing test programs, progress, stock replenishment, turnover, exit timing, expansion timing etc. Recommend changes / adjustments to planograms.
- Communicate product / supplier changes, promotions and price changes to Franchisees and internal.
- Order products for new store openings and transfers.
- Merchandise sections of store as needed.
Marketing
- In conjunction with the Marketing Manager, establish an annual promotional plan for each category based on a calendar year.
- In conjunction with the Marketing Manager, establish promotional material required including supplier support.
Provide concise detail of promotion to stores including merchandising, costing, and sampling
**Experience**:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field
- Proven experience as a Category Manager or in a similar role
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools
Nice-to-have Skills:
- Master's degree in Business Administration or related field
- Experience in retail or e-commerce industry
- Knowledge of merchandising principles and practices
